PC Sim City 5

Digging a bit deeper into the simulation of this game reveals how very disappointing this game is. Phantom population, ridiculously dumb AI, broken RCI.
Just found all this s**t today, very disappointing.....

Seriously wtf?

I went and had a gander at Cities XL..... Holy sheeiiiiit!!! What a time sink!

On a happier note I found a great road building tutorial.

You know what I'd like to see in Simcity? Some way to regenerate water (desal plant, freshwater pumps etc) other than placing the water plant next to the sewage plant.

This is the best I've had so far.

I was using the power generated from there for a while but then residential zones upgraded and became unsustainable to run my city. Wonder if there's a way to increase the amount of Mkw you can sell to your neighbours?

Ended up adding a nuclear plant or my city would've shutdown.

Heres the start of my casino/tourism city.
It works very well, I have every kind of mass transit and zero road issues (pro tip, dont use heavy avenues/streets for your main inlet roads, use medium as the intersections are just giveways and not traffic lights, traffic lights slows down traffic considerably), I only have 3 basic (fully upgraded) casinos at the moment and they all make over 10k a day, the monument makes about double that but whats weird is when I put on a show at the stadium (only done 1 so far) my tourist intake took a MASSIVE hit, it went from about 1800 a day to 3000 a day while the show was on but they dropped to around 200 a day, I went from making 30k+ on gaming to losing the same and I've just now caught up!

I'm going to get rid of the big stadium and get the EXPO center instead actually.
The drop I mentioned earlier I recovered from which was good, built up some more coin and did the stadium monster truck rally to see how it would go now that I had opened up my seaport.
Not great.
Firstly I did get tourists up to about 10k which was ok except only 6k turned up to the stadium (roads were all clear, mass transit was all good) and during the "build up" an earthquake hit my residential area (left of the stadium on the pic above) which slowed things down a little, I ended up at a 17k loss or thereabouts, thats not the worst though! Getting all the people INTO the city was great, they used all different means of transport, except now to leave they are ALL USING THE HIGHWAY! I have mad gridlock and my tourist influx is down to ZERO, my casinos are running at a loss due to no-one there and I'm losing money like crazy!
So, I feel I have a decent road setup where I could handle a packed stadium but the game wont allow me to do it.
Maybe its due to alot of my housing and commercial going up a density aswell as all those new homes from the earthquake and various other things but the gridlock I have now is stupid.

Ok heres the pic, from 9k tourists (we'll say 3.5k since thats what I had pre-show) to 25. Woots! Winning! My casino "income" is -20k. Funnily enough though when I went back in all the traffic had gone, the avenue to the stadium was at standstill and red, the avenue to the right likewise and the streets within 2 blocks in the front of the stadium was also red, yet I come back to normal barely green. NOICE!

Agreed.
Its kinda cool being able to have sewer outlets next to a filtering water pump but I agree, desal plant or something would be good.
Heres a question regading this, does the treatment plant still flow dirty water to filter and pump as clean water, or just the crude sewer outlet pipes?

Nope, clean water. Just put them next to eachother and you won't need filtering.

Apparently someone has figured out that you can disconnect from the internet while playing, and then to save the game you just reconnect at the end and it saves onto the server. Which is interesting and I think the first step towards a fully offline mod..

How big would people like the city boundires? off the top of my head I would like them as big as the regions are now but is that too big? It would allow for a whole region (towns, rural, etc.) rather than a group of towns as it is currently.

Is this worth getting when it drops down in price? Or am I better off sticking to Cities Xl 2012?

I'd wait for now. Maxis have a lot of work to do to fix this. I'm sure the mod community could easily make this game very good, they just need to be left to do their thing.

This is probably my best so far.
Its my electronic City. I have an issue with air pollution (although they arent leaving) due to a wind change but other than that its perfect.
No traffic issues and it makes 6-7 million a day (would be 10x that if I had the room).

Bejeweled 3
Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)

That is the list of games we get to choose from for free due to the disrupted start to SimCity.

Yeppers.
I'm thinking either ME3 or BF3.

One could think you are getting a free game with simcity, but I prefer to think I am get simcity for free with the purchase of one of those games...smart move by EA if you don't own one of those...insulting if you do.

Which one of those is the most expensive?

Surely bejewelled 3 is just a few dollars?

I think its more about catering for all ages.
Simcity is that kind of game that kids and parents and casuals play so they opened up the "free" games for those included.
Its a marketing ploy now, you have another 6 days to "buy Simcity" and get a "free" second title.

I would've thought it'd be illegal for them to offer Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter with a G rated game.

99% sure this was a whole thing just brought into gaming last week via ESRB, how you're not allowed to pair an M rated game with a G rated one.

Another potentially big change impacts the “cross-selling” of products. Cross-selling is, in essence, using one product to help sell another. It’s why Sony’s including early access to an upcoming demo for The Last of Us through this week’s God of War: Ascension. One game is Mature-rated, and the other is likely to be, so the ESRB signed off on cross-selling The Last of Us through God of War.

Under the new ESRB guidelines, it’s now possible to promote a Mature-rated or potentially Mature-rated game within a game that's been assigned a lower rating. The only way for this to happen, however, is through explicit approval from the ESRB. Here’s how the ESRB outlined it:

“On a case-by-case basis a company may obtain approval prior to public release via the ESRB pre-clearance process to cross-sell a Mature-rated game with a less restrictively rated game. Supporting documentation (e.g., media and/or marketing plans, demographic data) will be required to demonstrate that the games being cross-sold have the same intended audience and, where audience demographics can be verified, that the cross-sell is in compliance with the ESRB’s target marketing guidelines.”
