Adelaide Oval - Discussion

Pretty much sums up Port4556's posts. 85 posts, and I reckon all of them have been about him wanting a spot within 3 metres of the East Gate, while refusing to acknowledge that Adelaide Oval has a fantastic transport management plan that so far, seems to be working well.

I cringe so hard reading through each of his posts that my face just about turns inside out.

If you can't counter with facts , fine , looks like you cant . Nice to see that Afc supporters are thrilled ( not ) with the set up that's replaced the shed ? , but that's o'k' you can always wonder over to the casino eh , another asset Aami had who's replacement wasn't though through.

There's a large carpark at the convention and entertainment centres (Convention one is multi story......). They're both closer than the shed was to AAMI Stadium.....
Facilities are there, it's all mental that you think they're not.

Iwould'nt resent having to pay 30$ , I resent not having the same opportunity like the corperates and Sma management/guests have.

Umm, if you did some research into the said corporate offers (or Stadium Club), you did have the same opportunity as the corporates etc - for the right price. If you're happy to pay $30 to park under Etihad, I'm sure you'll be happy paying $4200 for a Stadium Club membership that will get you that car space you so desperately want.

True true , and what about an opportunity for the other 3000 people that might want a fair go at it , remembering EVERY tax payer contributed . Hey the oval upgrade is fantastic , but that doesn't mean that there are things not that should have been done better or cant be improved on , I don't think there's ever been anything constructed that's been 100% perfect , everybody prob see's it in a different light , just because it may suite me 100% , doesn't mean nobody else can have a valid contra point , that's something that a few on here find hard to accept.

Sounds like someone wants a job in the SMA or wants to buy a corporate box.

How bad is the bridge !!! Congestion Central
After the game it's shocking. Will be using King William next week. To be expected as 90% of people are leaving to go in the same direction, a problem that is only made worse because of North Adelaide's shocking car park time limits imposed on game days.

But any normal person could have predicted that so many people want to head back that way into the city.

1. Bridge is not wide enough
2. The mouth at the stadium side of the bridge is not wide enough

Yep, the SANFL and SACA wanted the bridge wider. The Government or council? did not.

What other city would provide free public transport to games? Geez just catch the bus or a train / tram
inb4 "this is Adelaide not New York or Sydney" (but with poorer grammar)

Bridge wouldn't need to be much wider.
The problem is mainly those from the Eastern stand filtering in on the side and causing a bottleneck.
And a few Southerners using that less direct route. If they went straight for the KWS Bridge, they wouldn't have had that problem. It felt like 30% of those on the bridge, went up the stairs to the side, 5% like me went in the direction of the casino, while the other 25% were heading down across the entertainment centre towards King William Street.

If those people went there before the bottleneck (Down War Memorial Drive) that's slot less people on the bridge, less congestion and the like.

It'll improve in the following weeks. I think most people will realise that the bottleneck is too much and will go the alternative route. I think only those using the train services will continue to use that as well as away fans staying in the hotels around that area as well as a few casino goers.

Or... people are going along the bridge cause its the new bridge and people are slow at walking and they screw it up for everyone else. One of the bridges at the G is wider and was just as bad at times because of slow people on Friday night and that was just 43k, not all heading in the same direction.

I went over the bridge and the through the train station last week because I thought they would keep Station Arcade open and that it would of been fairly quick.

I think it was a bit of a novelty for the first couple of games, people will eventually work out what's the easiest route for them.

That said, I didn't think it was that bad, would be nice if people walked faster but that's never going to happen in a large group. The Etihad bridge is pretty bad, maybe even slower, with people going straight out onto the street mixing with people going to the train station crossing over each other. At least we are all going in the same direction.

What bridge at the g is that ? Because I'm sorry but that just does not happen

Not sure what it was like yesterday but for the Showdown alot of the congestion was caused by people promoting the Woolshed and that Foodbank thing that used to sponsor Port when they were a basket case, despite the signage on the bridge forbidding that sort of activity. Alot of them just got in the way and really should just get out of the way.

I'm hearing a lot of in the coming weeks and people will find other ways but I completely disagree.
The bridge isn't wide enough and congestion will remain even in the coming weeks.
We shall re visit this by say round 15 and then see

Are you from Adelaide? Have you been on the bridge? It will be fine. People are excited, they are stopping on the bridge to check out the views while everyone is trying to progress to the train station. They are taking it to get to the buses too which they don't need to do. I was at the game last week, I know what happened. It will be ironed out as early as the next home game for the crows as everyone has pretty much seen it and won't care. It isn't like you have to be somewhere in a hurry, because everyone in front of you is going to get on the train first and you'll have to wait anyway..

Woolshed people had parked themselves on the otherside of the bridge, at the base of it before the entrance to the station. So weren't on the way this week. (Or weren't 5-10 minutes after the kick and catch started)
No charities trying to leach off the crowds this week either.

btw - on that, after going onto the field, I find the Southern stand is imposing at ground level. Being an away fan looking into that would be intimidating. The club should really do a free handout of flags to everyone in the southern stand one week. That would look amazing with everyone waving away.
