Pick 16 (North Melbourne) Jordan De Goey 187cm, 82kg

Strengths (versatility, marking and kicking)

“Delighted to welcome Jordan to the Kangaroos, we believe his kicking is elite either short with bullet passes or using his long boot kicking from outside 50. He is highly versatile and brings an ability to play as a medium forward and rotate through the midfield.

His added work in the gym over the last season has seen an increase in his ability to win the ball inside, however he still processes an excellent outside game. His marking overhead is elite for someone of his size and we see real growth in his ability going forward."

Chief Crow up next.

Essendon - Pick 17 (traded to bombers for Patrick Ryder)

With the uncertainty around the ASADA investigation and many players looking at suspensions (possibly long term) the Bombers will be looking for versatility in the line up. Someone who can be a Mr fix-it.

TOM LAMB - Dandenong Stingrays - Vic Country
Tall Forward - Midfielder who can pinch hit down back
193cm 84kg

I was seriously considering De Goey at my pick

Essendon Pick 20 (end of round one compensation via AFL)

After selecting Tom Lamb, the Bombers will be looking for outside speed to complement the inside one paced midfield.

Jarrod Garlett South Fremantle - West Australia
Half Forward - Wing (long term)
180cm 80kg

I really like Langford for a sneaky selection at 14. He would have been next off my board. He is very young for this draft class, born in December, highly versatile and a great mark.

Jack Steele is an academy selection at 24.

Pickett gives me massive Tambling vibes.

You could be right.

from AFL.com

Jarrod Pickett

Small forward/midfielder with electrifying pace who can set the game alight. Smart around goals and has elite endurance. Finished equal-second in the 20m sprint at the NAB AFL Draft Combine with a time of 2.87 sec and recorded a time of 2.87 sec in the agility run. Played five senior games this season for WAFL side South Fremantle, mainly as a deep forward. He averaged 14 possessions and three marks in his six hit-outs during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was a member of NAB AFL Academy Level 2 squad.

and…..

Pickett entered last week's combine knowing it was his endurance, not his sublime speed, that he needed to prove to recruiters. By surpassing level 14 in the beep test he did just that, and again performed well over the 20-metre sprint, recording a time of 2.87 seconds. Pickett most loves running with the ball, looking ahead and taking the game on. In his five games in South Fremantle's senior WAFL side to finish the year he played mainly as a deep forward.

From 2004 phantom draft

Richard Tambling
(Southern Districts), 12 September 1986, 181cm, 74kg

Tambling has been an elite performer at junior level, having been named the best player at both under-16 and under-18 level, which earned him the Alan McLean Medal and the Hunter Harrison Medal respectively. During his three matches at this year's National Bank's AFL under-18 championships, he notched up 61 disposals to cap off a stellar carnival. Tambling also captained The Allies during grand final week this year, when he led the side to victory in the inaugural National Bank's AFL under-18 Rising Stars Cup against Victoria. An AIS/AFL Academy member in 2002/03, Tambling shone at the recent National Bank's AFL Draft Camp, where he recorded a time of 2.87 seconds in the 20-metre sprint and a vertical leap of 93 centremetres, which were among the best tested this year. The dashing Northern Territorian goalkicking midfielder with the blistering pace and silky skills will be an excitement machine.

I now have a new interest. Who picks Pickett, at what number, and how he develops.

Selection 25 (North Melbourne) - Reece McKenzie 196cm, 100kg
(Strength: Contested marking ability)

“Reece is an exceptional talent who has dominated games at underage level. His bag of 10 late in the season showed his enormous potential. He has demonstrated an ability to pinch hit in the ruck in the middle and while up forward adding to his flexibility. A late convert from Basketball, Reece has exceptional leap testing in the top 10 at the combine and demonstrated his pace of the mark with a 2.97second 20-meter sprint (equal second). He also finished equal first in the clean hands test scoring 26/30”

My logic behind McKenzie is that Waite and Petrie probably have 2 years left. Aaron Black is a lively type but needs support. Majak Daw will probably be delisted at the end of next season.

Pick 26 - Tyler Keitel
Dogs have got 1 KPF this off-season in Boyd and will get another in Keitel.

Pick 27 - Oscar McDonald
Dogs need some more talls in defence. McDonald will cover that hole. Is a nice height for a KPD.

Will add detail later, but storms are rolling through now.

As long as whoever goes after him is not a 'Buddy' then he'll be fine. And the fact that he'll go around pick 10-14 will mean there's no Tambling comparisons throughout his career. The pressure is off....slightly.

Both key backs! That's just greedy :D
