Competition has gone off paying high picks for ruckmen, it's why we got Grundy at pick 18 when he was supposed to go top 3

Doggies 1st round pick (around pick 14?) + Johannisen for Witts?

Looks reasonably fair to me, Johannisen could be the fast rebounding defender we need.
Tbh I'd be happy with a first rounder for Witts straight up. If the Dogs could get coerced into providing steak knives I'd consider it a bonus.

Seriously - Why would any team trade for Witts when Leunberger & Kruezer are restricted free agents?
That Witts to the dogs trade sounds like a load of tripe.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but ive watched pretty much every Brisbane game this year, and are we even sure Aish is any good?

Honestly i dont rate Seedsman but he has an Anzac Day Medal, i think Seedsman and a 2nd Rounder would be overs for Aish. He has legit done F*ck all this year and im not convinced he is any good

We are clearly referring to paying high picks in a trade, there was a common thought that many clubs were looking to trade in mature-age ruckmen rather than recruit one and spend years developing him.

I don't think we will see a ruckmen go top 5 in the draft for a long time, but in trades their value is still very high.

Two number 1 rucks will struggle to shine in the same team.

Both may be good players, but they don't work together very well.

Grundy + a 2nd ruck/forward is much better for the team

Yeh, lets hav 1 young ruck and burn him out.
Even better, lets hav spuds like white and vickery running around as a backup in the black and white.

Let me know when we get one of those then

cant believe people want to trade witts, been waiting 20 years to hav 2 potential gun rucks and u want to trade him because u hav no patience. He is 23, rucks dont shine until 25 plus.
It's not that people want to trade him, more that they see him as the logical piece to the puzzle in acquiring Treloar.

In a perfect world we would keep Witts, Grundy, get Treloar and a promising key forward, but it's not realistic.

Take in to account that both Witts and Grundy would walk in to the number 1 ruck position at a number of clubs, whereas they're competing for the same position with us. If another club comes knocking offering them a full time ruck gig and a juicy contract, the club may end up having no choice but to trade one.

Leunberger is nearly 28 and Kruezer is 26 with a battered down body.

Witts suits a team whose premiership window is still a few years away much better.

Those 2 are both better than him at this time & would not need to give up a pick for them.

When one of your specialist rucks can be a presence up forward it helps immensely.

Both Grundy and Witts seem incapable of taking a contested mark
At the moment yes. Not sure it will always be that way. It would sting bigtime, should Witts become a dominant ruckman elsewhere.

No, the competition has gone off using high picks to draft ruckmen. Clubs are more than willing to part with their picks for a ruckman who has proven they can perform at senior level with a lot of potential improvement left in them.

There are plenty of other players i would be trading before witts

Witts has not shown any improvement in his contested marking since he came to the club 4-5 years ago. He just doesn't have any skill when it comes to taking a mark over his head, very unlikely he becomes a good contested mark I reckon. Some people just assume he will because he is tall...

Seedsman for Yarran.

I wish Carlton would do that trade but I am sure they would rather our second round pick instead.

We could possibly do the Seedsman for Yarran trade and if we keep our second round pick we can trade our first and second rounders a long with Kennedy to GWS for Treloar.

I have had enough with Seedsman. He has been on our list for some time now and he can barley get over 15 touches a game. As for Kennedy, he has been great in VFL but awful in the AFL. Maybe GWS would be better for him or somewhere else than staying at Collingwood.

Where do I sign? Yarran is a hectic footballer.

What happens if ya trafe witts then a few years later grundy walks or has a lti??
Cox + another backup ruck recruit.

Doubtful that Grundy would walk. The club considers him a franchise player. They'd bend over backwards to keep him.

He did actually start to show something late last season, then busted his shoulder and he hasn't been the same since. I'm interested to see how his marking goes next year with a full preseason of strength training. If he doesn't improve then it will be pretty damning.

Mason Cox come on down?
I suppose it's the risk you take, but I trust the club would come up with another option down the road if we lose Witts. It's all about weighing up the risk/reward and at the moment if trading Witts helps us get Treloar I'm in. You hope Witts doesn't come really good and learns to be a marking threat, but in that situation we would still have Treloar and Grundy to make us feel a bit better. But if Witts doesn't come good we've worked it beautifully.
