Round 7
Season 36 Round 7

Baghdad Bombers 15 8 98 defeated by Las Vegas Bears 19 9 123

In a high quality game the Vegans got the win by 25 points. For the winners Cap had a cracking all round game with 15 Hit Outs, 22 possies and 3 goals. The Bears were also well served by guero 24 disposals and Millky95 22 possies. Would be human headline Senor M had a notable 10 frees. For the Baghdadaists none were better than Grav with 21 disposals and 7 tackles and the determined Jabba73 with 15 disposals, 9 marks and 2 goals.

Dragons FFC 7 10 52 defeated by Gumbies 14 2 86

Wow just wow! Good kicking is great Qooty while bad kicking is bad Qooty. In a peerless display of accuracy the Gumbies snagged 7 straight to bolt away from a hapless Dragons who had one more scoring shot but were flogged by 34 points. For the Gumbies, Jeremias dominated with 28 disposals 8 tackles and 3 goals and of course zero behinds. They were well supported by BlueE 20 disposals and Barrybran 18 disposals. For a Dragons team in free-fall Ge3ks was best with 16 possies and 8 towering marks. Comp antiquity Pie 4 Life typified the Drags’ dismal day with 1 goal 3 behinds.

p.png

Roys FFC 11 7 73 defeated by Mount Buller Demons 19 5 119

Hmmn, no surprise a match involving the Dees results in a flogging but in a real shock the struggling Dees got a morale boosting win. For the shocked winners none were better than sante 24 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals Hate 19 HOs and 23 possies and Yakker 29 disposals. DERO and Wosh both slotted 4 majors while Marlowe contributed classy doughnuts. For the Roys, the best was the ever consistent JackNah_8 with 20 possies, 6 marks and a goal.

p.png

Coney Island Warriors 17 13 115 defeated the Fighting Furies 6 6 42

This was not a match but just a terrible slaughter. The Warriors dominated across the field. For the winners, veteran pantskyle wound the clock with 10 HOs, 31 disposals and 2 goals. The Wazzes were well served by The Filth Wizard with 6 goals and TheInjuryFactory who bullied the Furies with 9 crunching tackles and picked up 21 disposals. For the vanquished Furies, Frothies Mcveigh was a near lone winner with 26 disposals and 7 tackles. Of interest, Shueygod achieved -3 Dt with doughnuts ruined with a FA.

p.png

Gold City Royals 12 9 81 defeated by Sin City Swamprats 17 11 113

This was a routine result with the Swampies accounting for the underwhelming Royals. For the winners, the best were Kennedy Parker with 16 HOs, 24 possies and 3 goals, jackster83 with 22 possies and @The Jesus with 17 disposals and 9 marks. Their new forward philreich jagged four goals while rejuvenated okeydoke7 finally had a decent game. For the struggling Royals, krakouers was the standout with 30 disposals.

p.png

West Coast Wonders 12 13 85 defeated by Ophidian Old Boys 19 15 129

The OOBs continued to prove they have the wood over the Wonders. This match was never in doubt. For the winners, Wacky Tiger had 16 HOs, 26 possies and 2 goals and was well supported by kenneyswarriors with 25 possessions and 9 marks and Braklet with 22 disposals and 9 tackles. For the listless Wonders, HARPSichord had 20 possies and 10 tackles while GUH fluked 32 disposals.

Round 8
Season 36 Round 8

Fighting Furies 18 9 117 were defeated by Gumbies FFC 22 10 142

This was a cracking game. The eccentric Furies made the “classy Gumbies*” work hard for the win. Almost all the Gumbies had great terrific days and many were celebrated with green KoolAid or some ther sponsors product. Some say cats_09 with 14 HOs 34 disposals and 6 tackles was BOG but they were advantaged by their opponent being NaturalDisaster . The smartest adult in the room, ie me, knew the bog was GWS Goose with 34 possies, 4 tackles and 3 goals.

The Gumbies also benefitted from the stout service of HotPiesWithSauce 33 possies and from Chat Pile who dobbed 8 majors. Many Furies also had cracking games including Bovo with 29 disposals 6 marks and 2 goals.

* classy and Gumbies - Words rarely seen in the same sentence.

Mount Bullar Demons 10 10 70 defeated East Side Phoenix 10 9 69.

yes, yes yes… even blind Freddy wahwah could see this was a close, albeit low quality, game. But the absence of a certain posters standard tip on the Dees could have influenced the result, so say all the Jobes, Jonahs and Jeremiahs. We say begone to these Triple Js. Instead let’s focus on the stellar work of the Dees’. Bluelegs was steady throughout with 19 possies and 6 marks. Tyro recruit sausageroll had 18 touches and a goal and Wosh and cooney booted critical goals. The unlucky Phoenicians were best served by creaking ruckage veteran por_please_ya with 15 HOs, 15 touches and a goal.

In a sidelight, Headless with 5 touches again proved his value as an interchange.

p.png

Roys FFC 15 15 105 defeated Baghdad Bombers 10 4 64

Only their exceptional accuracy kept the Baghdadaists within a bulls roar of the Roys. As it was, the Roys old timers square danced their way to victory by 41 points. For the winners, 3KZ is Football shone with 28 disposals while noted aerialist defenders Phar Ace with 11 marks and Aristotle Pickett 13 marks controlled the skies. For the losers there were some warm moments produced by Sun Ra 33 disposals and sunny3193 with 25.

p.png

Ophidian Old Boys 13 10 88 defeated by Gold City Royals 15 8 98

For a host of reasons the defending Premier had a forlorn season. This game offered further proof with the OOBs up against King Robert aka Cadsky whose Susan Boyles/Royals were having another shocker year. Yes the Royals did win and for that they can thank bonkers shirtfronter Brenton Davy who amassed 26 touches, 12 marks and 2 goals. The Royals were also well served by Membling 23 possies, 7 marks and 2 goals, veteran GreyCrow with 12 HOs and 20 disposals and SarahSmiles with 23 touches and nine marks. grumbleguts slotted 6 majors.

For the OOBs Fleabane showed customary teeth and claws with 28 disposals and 8 tackles. In the battle of the skippers we called the game pretty even though the Tigerturbulance game from the stands was arguably more influential than the 9 touches amassed by Cadsky.

p.png

Sin City Swamprats 13 11 89 defeat Las Vegas Bears 12 12 84

This was a ripper game of Qooty with the ‘Rats getting home in a nail chewer (disgusting habit for humans but acceptable for those of the rodent or ursine persuasion). For the winners GotTheGoodes with 21 classy touches and a goal impressed while BloodySwan with 5 rib breaking tackles and 2 goals was vital and okeydoke7 with umpteen spoils and 12 touches showed he could make a back pocket. For the broken but unbowed Bears Millky95 was best with 18 touches, 6 tackles and 2 goals.

p.png

West Coast Wonders 20 8 128 defeated Coney Island Warriors 17 3 105

This was a poster game for Qooty with highlights throughout. Kudos to the inevitably unlucky Wazzes. (Wise heads have prevailed and they are not to be renamed as the Washington Generals despite lobbying from serial_thrilla and the Tribunal Thread cabal.) For the winning winsome Wonders AnUltimateRessie had a career defining game with 39 touches 11 marks and 4 crunching tackles. AUR was well supported by SSwans2011 who had 38 touches and a determined ClarkeM who had 25 touches and 12 bruising tackles, while Marklar_33 jagged 6 goals.

For the unfortunate Wazzes we really liked the games of Delicate Des Dinsdale with 28 touches and … rubs eyes.. zackah with 29 possessions while The Filth Wizard slotted 5 goals.

HARPSichord didn't even get mentioned in the writeup and got more votes than my 39 touches and SSwans2011 38???

Rigged.

At least I'm on the board.

Onya Falconista!
Onya manangatang!

Thanks for the hard yakka, even the edgy dweebs in this thread think you are righteous!!

Round 9

Season 36 Round 9

Baghdad Bombers 16.10.106 def by 19.10.124 Coney Island Warriors

The Warriors still held top spot despite a rare loss at the Colosseum last week, while the Bombers risked losing their spot in the eight after a heavy loss to the Roys. The game was a cracker with the scoreboard dude earning his keep tracking 45 scores and several lead changes. The ruck contest sparked the game with The Sultan (17 hitouts, 27 touches and a goal) and pantskyle (17 hitouts, 26 touches) duking it out for possession. norway blue (23 touches, 2.1 goals) ran the show at times but Tonga Bob wasn’t going to let the Bombers have it all their own way and tackled everything that moved (21 disposals, 10 tackles, 1.0 goals). Jabba73 kicked 3.0 but was overshadowed at the other end by The Filth Wizard with 6.1.

p.png

Mount Buller Demons 11.8.74 def by 14.6.90 Gumbies FFC

Third placed Gumbies travelled to Baghdad off the back of a regulation thumping of the Furies last week, while the Demons improved their chances of making the eight with a 1-point win over the Phoenix. In a fairly unremarkable game, it was at least a competitive one, with 9 lead changes. sausageroll and nobbyiscool battled it out in the middle to an identical stat sheet (22 disposals, 1 goal), Yakker put in a shift with 31 touches and Wosh snagged 3 goals for the Bombers. CatToTheFuture was one of only 2 multiple goal kickers for the Warriors (13 touches, 2.0 goals), while GWS Goose dragged his team over the line with 23 touches and 5 tackles. The game really could have gone either way until the Bombers ran out of steam in the middle of the fourth, and the Gumbies took advantage.

p.png

East Side Phoenix 18.16.124 def 14.18.102 Dragons FFC

Pheonix had suffered a narrow loss to the Dragons last week and had made noises during the week that they were going all out to correct that this week against a Dragons side fresh from the bye. DemurePrincess put the Phoenix in the lead with a behind in the 3rd minute and East Side stayed in front all day to claim the points. Callums_Guns and The Majestic had the ball on a string (32 and 34 respectively), and Itsmyshow did Itsmyshow things kicking 6.4 Ljp86 turned back the clock with a 23 touch, 11 tackle game but it was never enough, in part because of the inaccuracy of PhenomenalV1 (4.3 goals) and Greenery (3.5).

p.png

Roys FFC 19.10.124 def by 22.10.142 Fighting Furies

Roys returned to the BJO on the back of a good win over the Bombers, while the Furies were dead last after losing at home to the Gumbies last week. Even though this game was a good old-fashioned shoot out, the Furies clearly gained strength from propping up the rest of the league and stuck it to Roy over four quarters. DERRINALPHIL (22 hitouts, 25 disposals) and JackNah_8 (32 disposals) worked hard to get the ball to _Mike_, MrsEddieBetts, and Mooch who shared 10 goals between them. Frederico_WA was like a man possessed (32 disposals, 7 tackles, 2.1 goals and 11 - ELEVEN - frees for. Teacher’s bloody pet). Bovo had 33 touches and kicked 3.0 with Feraligatr also kicking 3.0 in a very handy Furies win.

p.png

Las Vegas Bears 20.12.132 def by 22.8.140 West Coast Wonders

Bears had missed the chance to take top spot last week when they lost narrowly in Sin City, while the Wonders had given them that chance by beating the Warriors. So this game was expected to have some zip about it. And so it did. Cap was so good in the ruck (22 hitouts, 3.1 goals) that the Wonders played three different opponents on him - none of them slowing him down. RonnieRaven (25 disposals, 3.0 goals) and Tandy (23 disposals, 3.1 goals) ran around and caused havoc but the Wonders just worked a little bit harder with Cubs2Lions (29 touches, 3.0 goals) and jezzajay (30 touches, 1.1 goals) getting the rub of the green. However, there was one great big blinding light in this game. Putting on a forward display for that will be used in training videos for years to come. Take a bow 10-goal hero DenieD.

p.png

Sin City Swamprats 16.8.104 def 15.7.97 Ophidian Old Boys

The Rats had snuck into the 8 last week after a narrow win over the Bears, while the Old Boys went the other way, losing at home to the Royals. The Old Boys got out of the blocks early with first quarter goals to Bonz (5.4) and TJohn (19 disposals, 1.1 goals) but after that the Swamprats had it largely under control - the final scoreline somewhat flattered the Old Boys - BRAB had a 10 possession game which somehow didn’t involve a single kick. How the hell does that work? Kennedy Parker dominated the ruck and pretty much the whole ground with 13 hitouts, 30 touches and 2.1 goals. GotTheGoodes contributed strongly with 20 touches and 2 goals of his own but it was philreich with 6.1 who laid the most damage on the scoreboard.

p.png

BYE: GCR

The Royals were probably wishing they had a game this week to continue the momentum from last week in beating the Old Farts away from home.
