First time poster so go easy, but if the Crows signed Thommo to $600k in 2015 then someone should lose their job immediately.
Why? Just because a player is aged 30+ doesn't mean that they should be earning 50% less than their performances dictate. That might hold true on BigFooty, where everyone over the age of 22 who isn't an A-grader needs to be delisted immediately. This is the real world, where performance dictates wages.

The average AFL wage in 2016 will be $259k, ($10.36M / 40 players). Thompson is not going to be on less than average wages - he's going to be above the average, well above the average. As a Veteran Listed player, Thompson is also entitled to $118k outside the salary cap. He's also entitled to $100k in testimonial payments (refer to Section 20 of the AFL CBA 2012-2016), also outside the salary cap.

Even if we assume a very conservative $400k base salary (included under the salary cap), he's still looking at around $620k by the time payments outside the cap are included.

If Adelaide match Geelong's RFA offer, then that's the contract he has in front of him.
He's not obliged to sign it though. He can agree to other terms with Adelaide.

Settle down, I don't think it's likely but it was what the op was getting at.

Yes, Thommo is a vet. $118,380 of his salary will be outside the cap. 2016 is the last year of the veterans rule, nothing in 2017. VB and Douggie should also qualify as veterans in 2016.
Where do you get the info about the veterans rule ceasing to exist? The AFL & AFLPA haven't signed off on a new CBA for 2017-> yet.

Pickering saying Aish decision known by Friday. Reckons he hasn't made his mind up, what a w***er

How many games did Laurence play for Woodville?

That's his kid right?

Correct .....and about 200 short of requirements

Holy s**t, that's Schache's kid?

I'd heard the name, and wondered, but just assumed, given what happened to Laurence, that it wasn't any relation...

That's pretty awesome - his dad was a champion of a bloke.

The kid obviously inherited his dad's talent. Lucky Brisvegas.

He doesn't have to sign it. If we match a 5/6 year deal then of course that's what's in front of him. Doesn't stop us putting a more palatable alternative to him that he can stay for 2 years on a slightly reduced salary then he can retain his FA status as an alternative in the event that Geelong don't play ball and he doesn't want to risk the PSD. It gets him thinking about his alternatives and demonstrates we are serious about getting a decent deal.

I strongly disagree huludicidal. I honestly believe the Crows have the upper hand unless Geelong blow us out of the water with a massive FA offer.

Geelong are leaking all this rubbish to the media trying to make us panic (players nominating Geelong, picks they're going to give up for them etc).

Danger will not risk the draft. It's simply not an option. He just wants to go home on less money than other VIC clubs are offering. If trade week ends and they haven't secured a trade he, Mardi and Conners will be furious and Geelong will be to blame, not the Crows.

All of the "Crows are under pressure to not match" bullsh*t only really kicked in yesterday when Connors was first out of the blocks and said we should just take Pick 14 and "follow the spirit of Free Agency". This was said on Trade Radio, repeated ad nauseum by Craig Hutchison, to the point that it filtered to the major networks and News Ltd papers. "Crows at risk of getting nothing" was the headline.

Who does Hutchison have a vested interest in? Geelong. Who runs Trade Radio? Crocmedia. Who owns Crocmedia? Craig Hutchison. Who has a big stake in Crocmedia? Half of Geelong's businessmen.

They want Dangerfield desperately and know it won't be easy. They know we'll match and demand a high quality trade. Anything to the contrary is a myth perpetuated by those with vested interests. Connors/Hutchison have not only created the facade that we should go easy, they've also got every man and his dog tuning in to Trade Radio to hear the latest talk which is essentially rubbish but coin for them.

Actually just on Danger, we should start a change.org petition asking the club to send Danger to the draft if the offer isn't satisfactory. I want zero pressure on them to accept a garbage trade.

This could be like their #comehomepatty campaign, but something like #makeastand.
