CBA’s (out of 18)

18 - O’Brien, Dawson, Berry
17 - Rankine
15 - Crouch, Strachan
9 - Rachele, Taylor, Edwards
7 - Pedlar
2 - Burgess

Unfortunately the third quarter is basically a write off because of the zoomed out camera + stream quality, while the uploaded replay is missing the start of the final term so stats weren’t taken down for it.
So, Strachan and Burgess took 17 of the 18 centre bounce hit-outs against Obrien... who took the final one?

Pedlar?

Mate of mine had some free time today so went through the game in a bit finer detail, the first half anyway. There were a couple of small pieces of play not captured by the stream plus a moment here or there where the player was virtually impossible to distinguish (in particular a behind scored from the pocket by the blue team in the first qtr, he gave it to rankine but it could have been rachele) so it’s definitely not 100 percent accurate but it should be reasonably close.

Those Rankine disposal numbers are incredibly promising for a half of footy

If he can be a bit more accurate around goals, is it ludicrous to say he could be top 10 or 15 in the league within the next two seasons as a midfielder?

Its a big “thanks, but no thanks” from me on any ideas of laird going back to HB..

We have far better options that use the ball a thousand times better than Rory “kick it to the moon and back” Laird at half back..

Milera, jones, MM, Nank, Curtin, Hinge, smith… all far better ball users and players that can play that defensive rebound off half back better.

Laird either plays inside mid.. or he gets pushed out of the 22.

And his inside mid spot shouldnt be guaranteed either given the talent potential we have building..

He just doesnt do anywhere near enough damage to the opposition. Gets shitloads of touches but does little with them.

Massive burner of the footy.

My 13 year old noticed it in Brisbane last year.
In his words, can't hit a target let alone kick a goal from 25.

Very nice, thanks for posting.

To my eye, and it was hard to watch on my phone, I thought Hinge was a bit rusty, and I thought he might struggle to pick up where he left off last year.

But the stats showed he had a pretty good half, one of the better defenders given the ball wasn't down that end as much.

It will be interesting to see if he can have a good a year, let's hope so!

Not ludicrous at all. Remember how much everyone was raving about Shai Bolton’s 2022 season? Rankine would practically match that output with an increase of 1.6 disposals and 1.7 clearances a game. I reckon he can even exceed that given his talent

That Shai Bolton 2022 season was damn special. He was 16th in the AFL for total centre clearances and 17th in the AFL for total goals.

I can't think of any other player that has achieved that.

Lets not forget that in 2022 Bolton attended 56% of the CBA"s and played half his game in the midfield. Despite all of this midfield time he was still a better forward than Rankine was in 2023 - kicking more goals (43 to 36) behinds (41 to 27) and Goal Assists (17 to 15). He even had more tackles inside 50 (22 to 18).

This isn't to disparage Rankine, but 2022 Bolton was a bit of a unicorn (until he disappeared in the final).

Easy fix...

I worked in a psych facility for a while. We often had people claiming to be JC. We would put them both together. One would inevitably be cured, the other seemingly confirmed, at least for the short while, in their delusional state!

There's at least two books on this sort of thing, about a psych facility that had 3 claimants to be Jesus Christ.
