Analysis AFC Full Draft History

I previously posted a complete history of the AFC in the National Draft in another thread. I have done the same for the other drafts out of interest and put it all here. If it is of use I can update annually.

Great summary.
Jeez we'd be looking good if we hadn't have had those draft sanctions. Thankfully we managed to get Hartigan, Charlie Cameron, Riley knight And Atkins in those years.

Makes amazing reading. To think that in 25 years in the comp we have only had 18 picks inside the top 25 slots and none inside pick 7. Makes you realise that we have actually done a brilliant job to be competitive all this time.

Our first rounds are not that flash.

The Rookie draft has been a strength of ours

Undisputed masters of the rookie draft and like a 16 year old virgin with no clue what to do when we get our hands on a single digit pick

It's a shame then that we failed to capitalise on what early picks we did have especially in the early 2000's. Man we were bad then. Then just as we start to get our act together we have tippetgate. No wonder we had no grand final appearances let alone premierships in that period.

What is not mentioned is we did in 2002 have pick 2 and traded that away for Wayne Carey.

Pick 4. It was never Pick 2 in our hands.

We had Pick 6 in our hands, but traded for Clarke. I'm sure there's other R1 picks we've traded away too (Stenglein -> Thommo for example)

Good effort putting all that together.

Highlights why we haven't made a gf for 20 years, TWO single digit draft picks.

I bet there wouldn't be another club with a number remotely like that in the last 25 years

* me that is shocking way to operate a footy club that operates in a draft that has top talent going early.

Seems we only really got our act together in more recent years. Now the AFC is a very good drafting club! How did we identify Sloane at pick 44, and Tex at pick 77? Marvellous.
tex was a NSW scholarship selection wasn't he? (hence the lateness of his draft pick)

Not tanking is shocking?

If we had bottomed out for a few years makes me think we'd have another flag on the wall. Still, its impressive.

Footscray hasn't played in a Grand final for over 50 years. In last 20 they've had 10 top ten picks. Melbourne has lost 1 GF in the last million years. How many early picks do you think they have had?
