No you saw a fraudster Brisbane Bears leaching off the imagery of Fitzroy. Its no surprise how the Brisbane team when playing in Melbourne often wears the fitzroy uniform. Sad pathetic attempt at trying to hoodwink melbournians into buying into that franchise.

TBH, that's just vile and disgusting. It's like a communism/facism. Fans of the game should be even more up in arms about that dynamic here. That they get spoonfed AFL-approved articles/news/history and there's no one out there keeping anything honest. It's a sad state of football affairs in...

From your lips to all their ears godspeed then! Feel the whole thing should be rehashed, rile up the AFL, make them squirm, rope Oakley into commenting and grilling him too, re-open the state of affairs and the whole long-term plan with the northern interstate expansion clubs topic, etc...

Executive career Oakley was appointed Chairman and CEO of the then troubled Victorian Football League in 1986, taking over the role from Jack Hamilton, remaining in the role until the end of the 1996 season.[7] Over the decade that followed Ross oversaw the transformation of the VFL into the...

Why can't anyone on Bigfooty who have contacts with journalists/etc take this matter further? Grill the AFL suits why they posted this article revising history, etc?

The way Australia set up the AFL was all wrong from the beginning anyway. Showed a distinct lack of vision.

When really did things go downhill for Fitzroy as a financial/attendance/membership club? Like going back to the 80s, 70s, 60s....when was Fitzroy like in the top half of VFL clubs for those things, and at what point EXACTLY did they start becoming one of the bottom quarter of teams in the VFL...

Thanks for your reply/info. I would like to know the finer details tho, because I think it was stated elsewhere that the Bears essentially bought out or replaced the Lions and it wasn't a true merger; why Fitzroy Lions still exists as a separate club in the VFL.

Tough question here for those in the know....but could Fitzroy ask for an AFL license and relocate to Tasmania or Canberra? Could it be feasible?

Thought it way too soon for the AFL to begin the revisionism on Fitzroy. And, peculiar choice to post it today when the Lions were at the MCG in retro Fitzroy uniform with a HOF thing going on.

It's obvious the AFL just wanted to kill off Fitzroy to bring in that 2nd SA club that was ready to go and was promised a license years before but had been left waiting. That's why there was no help etc. But you look around today, and how much the AFL coffers is delivered to financially...
