What is a good fee for an accountant?

I've heard at chartered firms they give BAS statements to junior staff it is that easy (not graduates but work experience kids). It is just simple book keeping hardly requires any analysis at all.

    Working for cash?

ben cats fan I think I can recall a statistic saying that the majority of non-high income invididuals are caught after being dobbed in, unless I got it second hand and assumed it was true. I have studied the ATO and they publicly declare they put most of their resources in going after the big...

    Working for cash?

If you didn't pay taxes because the government misspends it you are never going to pay taxes and always find an excuse. You pay to go to the footy even if the dud who shouldn't be on the list is playing.

    Working for cash?

Most of the ATO's information, or at least suspicion comes from people dobbing you in. Especially where employees leave the business on bad terms. So be careful there. Besides, if your business is properly registered you are under more scrutiny aren't you? Why aren't you getting any income?

    I understand nothing about finance/money....

Perhaps philosophically and at a very simplified level greed is to blame: -things are going great in the economy people want to take advantage of that - people want a higher return on their investment -a safe return isn't enough any more when they see some people getting higher returns, - which...

    Valuing properties

Interesting that accountants are very conservative and may rely on professional valuers who use the opposite approach. However I guess it only applies to residential properties.

    TAFE versus University

I didn't lose my cool. I agree that TAFE is obviously not as good as Uni. I just think it is ignorant to call the TAFE to Uni pathway as a side door for people who don't deserve it. And that it's wrong to say they are less deserving than a student who has finished year 12 who from an...

    TAFE versus University

The TAFE course I went to actually had a relatively high ENTER qualification (most don't have any!). I had a high enough ENTER to do a lot of Uni Courses (my enter was a bit over 70) but I didn't really want to do these uni courses. As I said it was TAFE through RMIT, so if you perform well in...

    TAFE versus University

Yeah well that is the difference between TAFE and Uni like I was saying. Some people will like TAFE better because it's straight to the point and more practical others will like Uni better because it's more holistic. As far as making yourself more qualified and prepared for higher paying...

    TAFE versus University

I didn't get a good enough enter to get in an accounting course (although I may have scraped in to LaTrobe's commerce but there was a mistake with my preferences sorta but that's another story). So I went through TAFE @ RMIT for 2 years, got an advanced diploma, and managed to get 1.5 years...

Need help RE: f*** up my boss

Most of the ATO nabbing tax cheats is found after investigating complaints from disgruntled (former) employees. I suppose if he's a tax cheat he deserves to be punished but you have to ask yourself about the guilt and all that morality crap that is SOOOO overrated. ;)

    Shares or Bank

$300 for someone to push their products down your throat isn't what I'd call cheap, try to get an indepedent advisor, or at least an advisor that will openly recomend different products (unless you are committed to the banks product anyway). You have to do alot of homework. There are a few...

    Define "rich people"?

Not all rich people are financially savvy and while they may have very very high paying jobs they aren't wise investors but can still live comfortably just off bank interest and such. The only real assets some rich people (a minority of those at that) have are frivilous things they've purchased...

    Shares or Bank

Danzan there are managed funds that only take a small investment and do all the diversification work for you. However peformance fees and many other fees are a disadvantage but they are ideal for people who want to get into the stockmarket but don't want to make the decisions themselves (that's...

    Shares vs Property

If you have the cash shares are still more attractive IMO. And anyway property is still pretty accessible to people with less cash through indirect invesments and things like building societies.

    Buy Telstra?

Telstra is just a crap stock. Another float doesn't make things better. No growth. Buffet in all his time as an investor has only been involved in two public floats.

    Warren Buffet

My TAFE teacher keeps quoting him like his a god. Apparently he is creating his own charity and not giving it to anything UN related since they are useless.
