Hey guys here I will update on what I hear around the traps being in Melbourne some of you guys may not get all the mail on the latest developments, please don't ask for sources, if they are from the papers I'll gladly link the article for you. If theres no article then it means I can't give you that info and you will just have to take my word for it.

I'm just starting out my career as a journo and I have my fair share of reliable sources.

Updated September 14, 2010

Adelaide - Focusing on signing Chris Knights reports of him being used as trade bait are false from my source, not really in the market for much at this stage. May jump at a young ruck man with news of Jonathan Griffen's desire to return to WA (likely a 4th or 5th rounder). Have been linked to Cameron Wood of the Magpies who is from SA but no reliable sources as of yet.

Brisbane - Issues with their cap seems to be sending this club into turmoil. Will need to await the verdict on Fevola. Expect Brennan to go with Carlton and Essendon heavily awaiting to bid on his services. Some good news however the Lions have re-signed Adcock, Banfield and Hawksley. Josh Drummond could land in Victoria or the Gold Coast if the Lions can't match interstate offers.

Carlton - Have money to get a decent defender problem is who do they go for, or what age player do they go for? Linked to this need for the Blues have been Chris Tarrant, Mathew Warnock and now Josh Drummond who's best mate happens to be Lachie Henderson keep an eye on that one guys. It's also reported the Blues are preparing to bid for Jarrod Brennan if he seeks a trade.

Collingwood - One thing I will say is that the Pies are going to lose one of their players to the Gold Coast and with the news of Travis Cloke committing to the Pies it's increasingly more likely that John Anthony will be that player. Josh Fraser has also been linked but not of credible reports. The Chris Knights to Collingwood scenario was spurred on by the Cameron Wood to Adelaide trade but this was only rumor made up with no credibility.

Essendon - The Bombers have a busy trade week ahead I think. It's become more apparent that Leroy Jetta wants to go back to WA and West Coast will possibly throw a late draft pick for his services. The interesting one here is Brent Stanton, from my source I have it that the Gold Coast are interested as well as another Victorian team that will be losing a player to the Gold Coast as early as today :). Houlli could well stay on at the Bombers depending what the new coach can do with him.

Fremantle - David Mundy was as good as gone last week with his desire to return home over going to the Gold Coast or staying in WA. Has been quoting as saying he would stay if they wanted him too. Well Freo have just lost Tarrant and now have more cash to throw Mundys way. Daniel Motlops name has surfaced as a possible Freo target, but Freo will not trade a player, instead a late draft pick. No news on Rhys Palmer either guys.

Geelong - The Cats stand to lose Ryan Gamble and Nathan Djerkurra. Gamble has been linked to the Eagles who are after another forward whilst Djerkurra has been lightly linked to the Power but is more likely to go to another Victorian club. Other than that the Cats will most likely keep all their draft picks. That may change however if they lose Gary to the Gold Coast.

Hawthorn - Campbell Brown is going whether it's today or tomorrow he's going. Robert Campbell will likely be picked up by the Hawks as Max Bailey is struggling to overcome injury setbacks. Jordan Lewis is again being linked to the Power, but could he go to the Bombers in a deal for Stanton.

Melbourne - Have been linked to young St.Kilda player Tom Lynch other than that they appear set for a quiet Trade period. Though may lose Mathew Warnock to Carlton if he decides to play with his brother.

Kangaroos - Word is they are keen on getting a forward, Aaron Edwards simply just not has worked out. Quentin Lynch's name has been linked more recently and is growing more and more by the day. David Hale is highly likely to venture to the Gold Coast as he seems to have fallen out of favor. The Kangaroos could be in the market for another in and under midfielder also, one player that has been linked though with no real source is Nathan Jones of the Demons.

Port Adelaide - Dean Brogan's name is being heard across a few papers suggesting he wants out not sure whether I believe that though. Daniel Motlop is 40/60 at this stage of going after a disastrous season. However Powers battle is keeping Steven Salopek who is attracting huge interest from the Bombers with Brent Stanton possibly on the move his name maybe floated come trade week.

Richmond - Tigers are eying youth and may consider offloading Richard Tambling for draft picks as they look to the future. Tom Lynch of the Saints appears to be a target for the Tigers who have (from my source) stepped up it's pursue for his services this week.

St.Kilda - May lose the battle to keep Tom Lynch with several Vic clubs interested in his services. The Saints come season's end will evaluate the need for David Armitage and may throw an offer for the Powers Dean Brogan with Armitage the likely bait with a draft pick.

Sydney - Will be much quieter this season. Will suss out offers for Patrick Veszpremi who just hasn't come along to what the Swans wanted. Paul Bevan could go to a Vic club who are keen on him but I haven't got the full scoop on which club it is.

West Coast - Quentin Lynch has been linked everywhere Carlton, Essendon and now the latest is the Kangaroos. Matt Spangher has already asked for a trade. Are set to be very keen on Ryan Gamble of the Cats.

Western Bulldogs - No real talk from doggy land as of yet Andreas Everitt's name has popped up again but nothing of serious talk as of yet. Expect the Dogs to get a pick in return for Harbrow to the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast - Not going to comment as of yet....

Thanks for reading guys. Will try and update every 3 or 4 days on any developments that I come across.

I've heard nothing about Mundy going GC. My mail was coming back to Vic or staying Freo.
Stanton bit's interesting. Would not surprise to see a shift.
North are a slow-burner this trade week.

Not much new information really. Though it does confirm, what I have always expected, that this trade week will be a fizzle. GC reducing the pool of AFL quality players and weak draft picks, means clubs do not have anything to trade with and are more worried about losing players this year than gaining any.

You have got to be kidding me? Jones and Lynch to the Roos is plain stupid. The last thing we need is another in and under midfielder, and there will be no need for Lynch when Petrie returns next year.

Yeah, the last thing the Roo's need is an in-and-under, they've got plenty of those.

Any word on Essendon taking a look at Armitage?

Very Much Doubt Wood will be Traded as I have heard he has Signed a New 2 Year Contract in the last month

Dunno what your North sources are but mine - this is stuff that Brad scott has said in club circles - have it that we're happy with Azza, that we know he can't be the go to guy but we look forward to him playing a role alongside Petrie and hansen next year.

We also have Nathan O'Keefe who debuted this year and two very highly rated blokes in Tarrant and Black we'd want to blood up forward. Can't see us getting Lynch.

Can't see us going for Nathan Jones either.

I suspect we'll be in the market to offload Hale for a picks/picks. If we could swing a deal that gets us a pacy young outside player - maybe.

St.Kilda - May lose the battle to keep Tom Lynch with several Vic clubs interested in his services. The Saints come season's end will evaluate the need for David Armitage and may throw an offer for the Powers Dean Brogan with Armitage the likely bait with a draft pick.

Tom Lynch? He hasn't done anything notable to date. He had his debut this year and didn't do anything particularly exciting in that one. I wouldn't mind another round 1 draft pick for him (given that he was one initially). But yeah, I'd be highly surprised if other teams are chasing him.

David Armitage - Hmm... no interest from GCS? I am not sure if he'd want to move from Victoria (even though he is a Qld kid).

I'm surprised to see that Melbourne are said to be chasing him, given that we already have his clone in Matthew Bate.

So a lifelong Saints supporter is going to leave the club, and the Saints are thinking about trading Armitage and a draft pick for a nearly 32 year old ruckman?

Not sure which is more unlikely.

It would be GREAT for Carlton, Port would be DESPERATE for a ready made ruckman, and Jacobs would net us #16 :D:thumbsu: :D:thumbsu: :D:thumbsu:

I'm hearing it's less and less likely.

There is zero chance he'll be leaving Victoria.

Houlli could well stay on at the Bombers depending what the new coach can do with him.

80-90% gone, from what I hear.

Not a fan of your sources, mate.

no sauce on my pie...however i think houli staying is a good chance.
i would doubt he would leave the club unless the new coach says he has no use for him. the kid has talent and something special about him but just never got the chance to develop. hoping a new coach can give him the time dyson, dempsey, reimers etc get/got.

stanton is a hard call. gets an immediate spot in our 22, really started to re-invent himself on the half back line.

that said, he has stalled from his 08 form for two years and could maybe do without being so heavily tagged. as a cog in the GC's midfield, he may not have the burden of that considering some of the players they are getting/got, but would need ablett in that midfield to help him.

could see him doing well at a number of clubs though.

its because theres to many nerds in the press media, i can tell you the only Tom Lynch that Richmond stepped up on the weekend was the one that was playing at Visy Park and very likely pick 6.

Obviously essendon was linked to basically everybody out of contract. But now we dont have a coach how do you know who we are interested in and itll be hard to land any players without a coach.

Exactly what I thought when I was reading the trade rumours. Absolutely no chance that Tom Lynch (Saints) will be leaving them. He was pick 13 in 2008 draft and is a potential KPF (Maybe third tall) who only debuted this year! Richmond is interested in the KPF who is available in the draft this year and is turning into a bolter (now considered top 10 pick).
Sounds like you need a new source....or a less confused one.

Andrew Walker was in Adelaide today to begin discussions with Adelaide, we are VERY keen on him apparantley. Wants to move to Adelaide (suprised me too), and isn't happy at Carlton. Knights is also expected to sign very soon, maybe even tomorrow from some reports.

Would be a very good pickup for Adelaide, he will start playing good footy once he settles into one position. Wonder what you'll have to give up for him.

14 for Walker and 18?

Adelaide are more interested in Sam Jacobs and Andrew Walker.
Dean Brogan will only leave Port Adelaide when he retires.
Mundy is more likely to return to a Victorian than join gold coast.

If you are going to be a journalist I suggest you learn how to spell, especially names and places, plus improve your grammar.

I'd be surprised if Dean left Port, however in this era of AFL nearly anything is possible.

Retaining Steven is a must.

Daniel's possible departure would be a positive for both parties.
