Welcome Ophidian Old Boy’s, families and special guests to the S36 Ophidian Old Boys Qootball clubs award night celebrating season 36 and recognizing individuals who have excelled both on and off the qooty field.

In only our third season we have made our mark again promoting story lines for the greater SWEET community. An outstanding result for a club that was forecast to implode by end of season 36.

A lot has happened in Season 36:

• We welcomed new Old Boys Iva Bigun / Wacky Tiger / fumbler / captain blood 17 / Irish BlueBagger / TJohn / Freddy Swift / Ace Rimmer to Spotswood

​

• haydo retired after playing 43 games for OOB and 304 games overall
• Bonz after 3 seasons relinquishing his Full Forward spot and finishing off with an Old Boy’s record haul of 141 qoals
• The fumblergate drama which saw the OOB lose 10 premiership points and the captain Tigerturbulance suspended for 12 games and banned from posting 21 days
• Elton Johns Wig successful Admin campaign and election to the SFA Administrator post S37
• And best of all winning the S36 Wooden Spoon and claim the record for highest percentage of any wooden spooner.

We have several awards which will be presented tonight. All the awards are based on the results of the S36 Home and Away rounds.

The first award presented tonight is The BOP which is presented to the Best Ophidian Poster based on a player’s posting contribution off and on field which includes match threads, Team PM and media creation and engagement in the SWEET FA as a whole. Special thanks to Braklet for keeping our posting stats and Yapper of the week updates current all season.

The BOP for S36 goes to Robertio a poster who is always there contributing every match thread and keeping other posters in the game. With a staggering 1436 match thread posts which averages to 103 a week Robertio is a poster power house flying the Old Boy’s flag every chance he has and as such a worthy recipient, well done Rob.

Our next award is The BOG ‘Best on Ground’ decided by on field game day performance. It was a great season for the club and although we didn’t make finals due to point penalties, we did bring home the spoon. So regardless of the end ladder positions the Old Boys dominated on field with lots of team members having their best seasons to date.

Coming in at a respectable 3rd place with 950DT, team high 150 Hand Balls and most Frees Against them (18), running amuck in the middle where he can be near the ruck action without rucking it up, our resident conspiracy theory expert U2tigers.

In 2nd place on 963DT and only 81DT off winning this, with a team high 71 Marks and team high of 150 Handballs, it’s the rampaging vice loving camel toe who has eaten up the space on the Wing, well done in only your second season kenneyswarriors

And the winner on 1043DT is a player who stood up tall, even though she is a runt. She filled in the ruck role while Turbo was locked up and then went onto the wing and made it her own, this pocket rocket scored a team high 91 Hit Outs, team high 141 Kicks with 134 Hand Balls, 33 tackles and 14 qoals to her tally, impressive qooty stats by anyone’s standards.

Congratulations on a great on field season and being named the Ophidian Old Boy’s Best on Ground winner Mrs Turbo.

Our next award is the Master Qoal Kicker Trophy for most qoals kicked this season.

There shouldn’t be any surprises as to who will win this as the Old Boys game strategy each week was simply “kick the qooty to @Bonz”. This season the puss kicked a solid 48 qoals which is 26 qoals clear of the next qoal kickers @roberio and Wickzki both sitting on 22 qoals.

Bonz has not only been a great contributor to us winning matches off his qooty boot, but a great team member to have around Spotswood making the place fun.

Well done on leading the qoal kicking for the third time in a row Bonz.

Up next is the DOB Medal recognizing the best Defensive Old Boy of the Season.

Midfielders and forwards rack up huge disposals and get plenty of recognition, but without a solid defensive the team will not succeed. The DOB medal is recognition of those unsung heroes who defend the opposition qoal attacks and is awarded to the defensive line player who applied the most pressure, killed off most of their opponent’s attacks, and was able to best nullify opposition threats.

This season’s DOB goes to the ultimate defender, a player who has been in the last line of defense now for 3 seasons playing on all the best Forwards in the SWEET. A hardnosed poster who doesn’t take a back step, our Premiership Full Back, Mr Defence himself BRAB, well done.
