Our next award is The ROS ’Rising Ophidian Star Award’ for the rookie who has been selected as a future star, someone who in their first season has shown they have the stuff to make a successful qooty career. This season we had 5 rookies, a great crop of new blood to Spotswood and the Greater SWEET.

​

Our S36 rookie crop of TJohn, Ace Rimmer, Freddy Swift, Irish BlueBagger, and Iva Bigun all took the place in different ways and dove in at different depths, hopefully all will go on and build on their rookie seasons.

One however stood above them all and cemented himself as a qooty beast, not backing away from any banter and also dominating on the qooty field. Well done on what will just be the start of many more awards in the SFA I am sure, our Rising Ophidian Star goes to Irish BlueBagger.

Up next is the DOB Medal recognizing the best Defensive Old Boy of the Season.

Midfielders and forwards rack up huge disposals and get plenty of recognition, but without a solid defensive the team will not succeed. The DOB medal is recognition of those unsung heroes who defend the opposition qoal attacks and is awarded to the defensive line player who applied the most pressure, killed off most of their opponent’s attacks, and was able to best nullify opposition threats.

This season’s DOB goes to the ultimate defender, a player who has been in the last line of defense now for 3 seasons playing on all the best Forwards in the SWEET. A hardnosed poster who doesn’t take a back step, our Premiership Full Back, Mr Defence himself BRAB, well done.

The next award is the Chancellor Cup awarded by the Spotswood Campus Chancellor, and is presented to the player who has provided extensive contributions both on and off the field throughout the season and upheld the Old Boys stringent values. This cup is given only to those servants of the club who have elevated themselves above just a supporting role, someone who is instrumental in working behind the scenes to make this club the powerhouse it is, someone who has achieved Old Boy excellence and an example to the Spotswood Campus members.

The winner of the Chancellor Cup is Robertio who is always present in the LG and team PM and never fails to back OOB players when out in match threads. Robertio is a great servant of the club and has Old Boy’s blood running through his veins and someone I know will have my back and stand tall for Spotswood. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do in the future for our great club, congratulations Robertio.

Each player could vote for who they enjoyed playing beside this season and valued most as a team mate. This is a great award as it recognises the value of a player as a team mate from your peers within the team. A pleasing thing was the votes were spread across a number of players and only decided by a margin of 1 vote.

The Favorite Ophidian Player as voted by OOB players is Mrs Turbo, someone who always stops in for a chat, mainly talking people into visiting Mrs T’s Tavern, reaches out to players if she senses they may be quitter than usual and always rounding up the rookies and offering advice to them to keep them in the game. Well done Mrs T.

The BOOB recognizing the Old Boy who has had the overall best season based on a combination of posting, on field performances and club contribution, the equivalent to the Best and Fairest and the clubs highest honor for a player.

In 3rd place is the player who had the highest on ground score and was strong in posting, coming in as the 4th highest OOB posting contributor. A great all-rounded performance this season and one which saw Mrs T becoming a real favorite of both our team and the opposition each week, congratulation Mrs Turbo for a solid season.

Coming in 2nd place is our number one poster Robertio who put in a solid year both on and off the field and had a real crack at going for back-to-back BOOBs. A player that doesn’t play for awards but is going to win them because of his efforts anyway, well done on another exemplary all rounded season.

And the winner of the BOOB is someone who didn’t win either the Best on Ground or the Best Poster but came second in both and when combined came out as the overall strongest all round performer.

From being our S35 Rising Ophidian Star and in only his second season kenneyswarriors is the winner the Ophidian Old Boy’s highest qooty honour ‘The BOOB’ for season 36.

The camel toe regaled us with his camel gifs, love of bench vices and stories of life in the camel lane. A great consistent season and one which he deserved to have his name go up on the BOOB and be enshrined in Spotswood history as one of the great Old Boy players.
