Harris wants to go to Carlton

All well and good, but Brisbane want player/s in return and convincing them to head north might be easier said than done. The players are still only semi-professional, so months interstate without huge financial incentives is a big ask.

It will be tough for Carlton now that they've traded their picks. Because of the state based drafts picks are useless to Brisbane. But what Carlton could have done is a three way trade where they traded picks to a Victorian team who then traded a player to Brisbane.

That way Brisbane would have had the chance to convince a player from any 4 of the Victorian clubs to move to Brisbane. Now they'll have to convince a Carlton player if they want a trade done for Harris.

Yep, just read that. Disappointing. I managed to like Harris as a Brisbane player, just...but I don't think I can like her so much at Carlton. The most positive outcome might be if she goes into the draft and gets taken by the Bulldogs.

They've really backed themselves into a corner. There's now only 3 ways Harris gets to Carlton - 1) a direct player swap with Brisbane 2) Brisbane do Carlton a massive favour and trade for useless picks 3) Carlton trade a player/s to Freo, GWS or the 'dogs for one of the first 3 picks in the draft.

Given GWS have their own draft pool I hope we get one or both of picks 9 + 17 too, which would be more in line with the Stevens trade.

I have no idea what Brisbane is playing at given they have absolutely no trade power in this situation.

I'd love it if we could get a big name to walk to the draft. Maybe we were interested in Jakobsson in the Stevens trade but Carlton wanted to save her for the Brisbane deal?

We could pick up Kaitlyn Ashmore from Brisbane if she chooses to head to Victoria and a trade can't be found. (As per article above)

1st in B&F to Carlton, 2nd in B&F potentially to GWS. We need to get moving otherwise we will be a development team next year.

EDIT: Grant makes re-signing #10 and some musings on what pick 1 could mean to us. Certainly looks like the 'dogs are worried about us acquiring that selection.

It was reported that the latter of the talks saw attempts from the Western Bulldogs to enter into the trade deal, knowing full well that should the Giants directly hand the first pick in the national draft to the Pies, the Bulldogs will be bumped to second in the Victorian draft pool and potentially miss out on both Harris and TAC Cup Girls best and fairest winner, Chloe Molloy.

Although the Magpies might not desire to take the 18-year-old forward with pick one, the pick itself could be worth an exchange for a quality, experienced midfielder; perhaps bringing Melbourne in off the sidelines to the trade table, or forcing the Dogs to give up something so they can secure a forward.
