Andy a tad higher than expected
Coaches must’ve not really rated bzt at all
Nor Perkins. 23 games and didn't make the top ten.

Dyson Heppell (22 games) - 114 votes, 5.18 votes per game

Others on the poll who played lots of games and didn't make the top 10:
Archie Perkins (23 games)
Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (22 games)
Jye Menzie (21 games)
Andrew Phillips (20 games)
Jayden Laverde (19 games)
Ben Hobbs (18 games)
Jake Kelly (17 games)
Jake Stringer (17 games)

Interesting that you can average under 2/5 from each coach/rating source and miss a game and still win the thing really. Not sure what this says about our players or perhaps our coaches.

Langers 23 games ;)

I was more on-side with McGrath’s performances this year than most on this forum but I have to admit that I’m very surprised that he has been viewed by the club as a better performer than Martin.
Even factoring in Martin being moved from the wing in the middle of the season, his season was significantly better than McGraths.

Heppell factoring in the top 10 is silly as well. Aside from them both playing a lot of games, their performances on the field weren't on average were poor to middling.

Has the voting system changed or criteria
I swear the winner used to poll 300-400 votes

On further look yep.

If you have less votes than Heppell after 23 games then you are averaging under 1 vote per coach per game. That's kinda ridiculous.

I suspect the way the voting system has been reported is wrong. Like perhaps each coach only has 25 votes to give each week, instead of having up to 5 votes available to give each player?

Either that or the coaches who look after a line group are only watching their line and don't give many votes to players at the other end of the ground.

In the past we had more coaches... now we have 4 coaches plus a rating out of 5 for Essendon values or something.

But how are most players not getting 5/5 for club values most weeks and also not getting traded?

It must’ve changed. There’s no way the winner is only averaging 2 votes per coach and everyone else 1

Scott / club must’ve changed it

I reckon the coaches are being a lot harsher. We're not that good, players shouldn't be getting a ridiculous amount of votes

What I said is what Sarah said at the start of the vote count... which is the same as last year and the year before.

I swear I saw it written down somewhere but can't find it right now. Lemme look

Maybe there’s no longer each coach voting, so less total votes available each gsme. Would be the only way to explain it

Yeh I agree with that but at the same time in 2019 everyone in the top 10 is literally over 300 and from what I remember a lot of the years were like that

Unless you’re in the best 6-7 a lot of players must be getting 1 or zeros of coaches

Merrett played 23 games in 2019, including a final (not sure if they count finals? I suppose they might as well...)

So the maximum votes in 2019 was 23 games x 30 votes (5 votes per coach, 6 coaches). So 690 votes. And he finished with 427 (62% of available votes, or averaging 18.5 votes per game). If they don't count finals then it's out of 660 votes, so 64.5% or 19.4 votes per game.

This year it's 23 games x 25 votes (5 votes per coach, 4 coaches, rating out of 5 for values). So 575 votes. Merrett played 22 games, so missed 1 game and had a maximum possible votes of 550. In effect, he got 38% of the available votes.

Definitely something odd going on.
