I was tempted ydc55 but there is a bit too much quality still on the board here.

Saints select Lance Collard.

eDPS up next for the Baggers.
He probably would have lasted to either of those picks

collard was obviously who I was targeting
lots of skill
if he settled interstate could be Shai Bolton

North Melbourne's 2023 AFL Draft Selection – Pick 29

nab-league-boys-wildcard-gwv-v-northern-knights.jpg

Luamon Lual

  • Height: 182cm
  • Weight: 72kg
  • Date of Birth: 28-03-2005
  • Leagues: AFL U18 Championships, Coates Talent League Boys

Player Profile:

Luamon Lual enters the draft spotlight as a dynamic and agile prospect, standing at 182cm with a playing weight of 72kg. His performances in the AFL U18 Championships and the Coates Talent League Boys have marked him as a player of significant interest. Lual's game is characterized by his impressive speed, quick decision-making, and precise ball use, making him a thrilling player to watch and a dangerous opponent on the field.

His ability to break lines and create play from seemingly nowhere is a trait that can turn games. Moreover, his versatility allows him to play various roles on the pitch, including as a midfielder or a rebounding defender, contributing to the team's flexibility in match-ups and strategies.

North Melbourne's Perspective:

With the 29th selection in the 2023 AFL Draft, North Melbourne is proud to bring Luamon Lual into our fold. His commitment to excellence and his raw talent present us with an exciting opportunity for development. Lual's athleticism and vision on the field align with our club's direction, focusing on speed and skill to break games open.

At North Melbourne, we believe in nurturing talent and providing our players with the environment and resources they need to reach their full potential. Lual represents not just a player with great potential but also a person with the character and work ethic that fits the culture we are building at the club.

Embracing the Future with Luamon Lual:

We are excited to welcome Luamon Lual to the North Melbourne family. His attributes resonate well with our club's values, and we anticipate he will become an integral part of our team's core. Pick 30 Geelong: Joel Freijah.
Pick 30 - Joel Freijah

Really struggled to pick between two guys but I have opted for Freijah here, tall winger in the Blake Acres/Kyle Langford mould. Wing is a specialist role and Freijah has the athletic qualities as well as the game sense to make a relatively smooth transition to senior football. I think the reason he’s dropped down the order a bit this year is he hasn’t shown any aptitude to move inside and use his size in stoppages or to win contested ball. Nonetheless, I think he shows great potential as goal-kicking wing and happy to take him here to replace the retiring Isaac Smith.

Pick 34 Essendon, Ashton Moir.
Pick 34 Essendon Ashton Moir 188cm 85kg Forward Glenelg/ South Australia

unbelievably talented kid who has had a disappointing year.
his strengths are kicking, decision making, ability to mark the footy.
his weaknesses this year is struggles with ongoing niggles, lack of intensity/competitiveness and not getting enough of the footy
i think Ashton will benefit getting out of SA and the pressure of being a high draft pick
he can absolutely play but has to play at his best the whole game.
iAshton would be a test of our new emphasis on development however ironically enough I think blake caracella played a little like Ashton and may be the perfect mentor for him in early footy journey

rationale for pick
as I have two picks close together I will not go into specifics but I understand the clamouring for a big bodied midfielder

Pick 38 West Coast: Tew Jiath.
Pick 37 Essendon: George Stevens.
Pick 37 Essendon George Stevens Inside Mid 189cm 101kg GWVR

George is an inside bull at AFL level.
He has shown the ability to win clearances, physically compete, show good hands on the inside and has a competent kick. He also is a natural leader who is a high quality individual,
George has a big tank and covers a lot of ground but he has little speed. The fear is he will be exposed on the spread. George needs to become a Patrick Cripps type or he will not make it but he will not die wondering and be an outstanding role model on our list.

Pick 36 Fremantle: Koen Sanchez.
Lucky none of you took the guy I wanted anyway.

With pick #36 Fremantle selects Koen Sanchez.

With the loss of Lachie Schultz, there is a spot in the forward line up for grabs for a small forward with skills.

Sanchez is a local east Freo boy as well which always helps for a club struggling to retain players.
