Did you have any concerns when Paddy McCartin made his comeback with the Swans?

CTE is a serious issue that it's weird you find creepy that we are discussing it on a public forum. It impacts on the quality of living & sadly many have taken their own lives.

Unfortunately the odds are that Hamill has CTE given the number of head knocks he has had & how easily he has concussed. This can't be diagnosed whilst he is allve. Yes, it's his choice along with the club that he wants to continue... but does he really understand how it may impact on him later in life. He should be speaking to the likes of Schultz.
I have a Swans mate too who accused me of trying to end Paddy's career by saying this kid needs to be told it's time to go.

Some people are quite weird on this topic. Clearly ANYONE, doctor or not could see from that last hit where a blade of grass concussed him that it was time.

Also enough with the "only doctor's can only comment" on this topic rubbish. ROB helped Seedsman with his brain injury when he was struggling to sleep at night. He researched medical cannabis and suggested he take it and now he sleeps fine. So none of his actual doctors found this for him but our ruckman did... should he not have commented on Seedsman's injury and let him be?

But Feenix … that’s the point. We aren’t Hamil’s doctors. We are many degrees separated from that.

If being informed about someone’s medical position can now be ticked off by diagnosing via TV, then sure … let’s call Will now and give him our informed decision.

Even he’s not daft enough to believe the drivel he’s coming out with

And he believes some wacky stuff

If you ever need brain surgery, would you rather have the opinion of the specialist who's privy to your medical history and has years of experience in the specific area of expertise required for a successful outcome?

Or would you rather trust a random person on the internet who read an article in the media and says "you just need to use a bit of common sense?"

The specialist is not an elitist who needs to be cut down to size. Opinions do not equal facts.

Spot on.

This is all just weird and pretty rude really

Professional sportsmen and sportswomen are typically more accepting of risk than the average person. He may well have been advised, and understand, the risks to his long-term health. However, being more accepting of risk, it's entirely possible that he would choose to continue playing anyway.

My argument is not about him not recovering from concussion symptoms. I'm sure his doctors wouldn't allow it. I'm talking about the increased risk of CTE in the event of multiple concussions (which he has had), which is not able to be diagnosed, at this point in time, until after death.

What I have come out with is exactly this:

A doctor can provide diagnosis on the recovery of concussion symptoms. Whacky?

A doctor cannot diagnose whether a player has or will get CTE. Whacky?

Any doctor who doesn't warn a player of the empirical data showing a heightened risk of CTE following multiple concussions is not doing his job. Whacky?

If one is to assume that a doctor is doing his job, then if the player continues to play the sport then they are choosing to take that risk. This is not unusual human behaviour. Whacky?

I think by whacky, you mean factual.

Had a conversation over the weekend with a few people in the know.
Petty is 100% committed to coming to Crows. Melbourne are aware of this.
Whether they deal him next year or lose him as a free agent the next year is up to them, but he will eventually be with us.

I mean it does appear that way.

Would Butts and a future second be ball park?

Be hilarious if we got Petty and Luko as FAs in the one year, could see the press demanding new FA rules.

Can’t remember when Luko comes due

I wonder if this time next year, the Crows consider waiting 12 more months and getting him for free, then give up a likely 2025 1st as thats what Melbourne will likely want.

I think a lot will depend on how well we do in the 2024 season and if we do make finals, just how far we progress in them.

Not sure how any of this is a rumour. But my 2 cents:
Hamill has clearly had multiple concussions. You can see it the same way you could see Aliir's concussion, plus the club doctor has stated it in subsequent injury reports. You don't have to be a doctor when a doctor is telling you
Hamill is clearly easily concussed, based on the number of times and relatively benign incidents where the above has occurred
Hamill is at risk of developing CTE based on the above, plus medical evidence of how this condition occurs. You don't have to be a doctor to recognise this, however it is impossible to know for sure
We don't know what Hamill has been advised by his doctors.
It's not unreasonable for supporters to think that it would be better that Hamill did retire to avoid further concussions and possible CTE in the future, based on the above and what has been observed in other players.
It's not unreasonable for Hamill to think he should play on.
It is Hamill's choice as to what he does with his career and life, it should be supported either way.

Problem is ....and it appears to be a habit formed in his junior career ....he picks up ground balls with his head low, and then continues thru the contest with his head low and leading any contact

His technique will always result in head knocks

The delicate issue with taking a player out of the game, is the potential for a legal case, whereby you are denying a player the opportunity to earn a living with his skill-set

It's akin to telling a hairdresser, you can't be a hairdresser anymore

If we get wilson this year and can somehow get a top mid in next years draft by trading up, then i am happy to use whatever other draft capital to get petty and go after lukosius etc
What's the fascination with Lukosius .....and what exactly has he done to warrant such fascination ?

Gather the Dees would want more than potential FA compo next year to release him earlier... otherwise they will make him wait.

Yeah, you do need to be a doctor. And not just that, you need to be a doctor with access to the players personal medical records and the detailed reports of specialists in the area who have examined him

Anything else is just uninformed, random guesswork

Given Petty isnt a true A grade player you would think the best compo they could hope for would be band 2 (end of first), but also possibly band 3 (second round pick). Which would be either pick 19 (blown out with FS), or Pick 28-35.
