Game Day 2023 AFL DRAFT

Why dont you just supply us ALL with the name of this journalist of yours?.. why the privacy and secrecy?

not sure why a journalist would want to remain anonymous in this situation.

a journo interviewed a family who, if this is true, gave him their thoughts.. none of the info gleaned is anything controversial, unexpected or damaging to anyones reputation… journo then starts sharing this info with others..

So, where’s the need for suppressed names and confidentiality now you’ve decided to share it further?..

did the family somehow not know they were talking to a journalist?.. did your mate the journalist trick them into this interview?

is this journalist actually not a journalist but someone who wants to be one?..

Why should he? People often talk about “gossip” but rarely would like to be named publicly.
If you don’t believe him fair enough - don’t believe him. Why argue about?

I like having a good trading relationship with GC and GWS.

Somehow feels like we can continue to be mutually beneficial for each other.
It seems we are becoming experts at the draft trade..the work put in to cover off on the different scenarios that may unfold seemed at total contrast watching DODO call wells to do that trade..sounded like..i stress sounded like it was a spur of the moment thing and he was hoping for the best.

Not according to their board
They offered us their F1 after GWS traded pick #8, but I thought they wanted other picks back too.

Any ways didn't matter as we wanted Curtin now rather than someone next year, which imo was the right decision.

Fair enough.

Was it the same with GWS as I had heard they didn't initially offer a straight swap (including prior to trade night)?

Gather West Coast would have become more desperate on the night given they had Curtin in their top 3...

Worked out well for us that GWS wanted to 1st round picks this year & not next year.

Not sure..but it seems according to the eagles it was a straght swap

Now if we rated Curtin in the top 5 of this draft, all we would have done by doing the trade was kick the can down the road for a year for what would be a top 5 pick..maybe pick 1.

But looking at Curtins profile and highlights..he is exactly the sort of player that can make a real difference for us and he certainly looks to have an A grade ceiling

Curtin is a player that as he's stepped up to each new level, hasn't lost any composure

He has that spacial awareness, and uncanny ability to break clear of opponents, then have the awareness to steady and deliver ....that is indeed a rarity amongst U18 players .....and synonymous with Champion Players .....he has it all !

You can see how happy haggis was to land him. He rated his game in the clarement final against men extremely highly

How many times did AFC meet with Curtin v other players...

How many hours did our recruiting team spend watching Curtin v other players.

For showing very little interest we were very, very keen to trade up to grab him...

and given the moving parts, we could hardly have been confident of getting him. He had to slide to a pick we could trade into without selling our soul. And then hope nobody else is bidding for that pick. Can't believe everything lined up.

Yeah, we take the guaranteed top 5 pick we rated (I suspect we rated him top 3), rather than a top 3 pick next year... as he is a need for next season.

Looks like just the type of player we need & no guarantees we would get a better player next draft.

With Murray out most of the season with injury, he has a real opportunity to play most or next season.

I like the idea of having both Curtin & Worrell in the side with another key defender as gives us plenty of flexibility to play on talls & mediums.

Oh yes..the stars aligned but the one part we could sort of control was getting on the front foot to map out pick trades with GWS who had the first possible available pick in the eventuality Curtin slid.

But we needed a lot to go right and it did

Yeah, we prepared ourselves for the different scenarios & were in front of other clubs before the night to trade with GWS.

GWS landed their 2 desired players too.

Also, GC happy has we gave them plenty of points towards their academy picks.

... & we got Burgess thrown in as a bargain... which we badly needed as we lacked experienced key position depth.

So do we credit Banic with his number crunching ?

why? He doesn't work for us anymore. Reid perfectly capable of negotiating these swaps. Ninuk's influence was overstated, notably by himself. Not much fanfare when we moved him on, do you wonder why?
He was in the Draft Room front & centre of our team ?

Anyone have access

1 We are a better side than when McAsey joined.... won't be near the spoon.

2 We can have a preseason as no coivd issues... & he can catch up with family & Keays.

3 We can play Curtin in a support role on a flank as we have other key backs.
