Mutineer you might be always unpersuadable, often cranky and sometimes wrong, but you also post a lot of useful facts and well-informed opinions. Thanks.

Patrick imo will be a star but he is conflicted with playing cricket.

What are the early feelings about our list needs, particularly for the first round (pick 5-10)?

Do we still need a tall mid, or are big mids the new tall mid?

The best available could be another forward, would we be unhappy with drafting Moir? That would add to a long line of first-round draft picks in recent times behind Pedlar, Thilthorpe, Rachelle and Rankine. I'd be excited, but how many elite forwards is too many if we can't get the ball down there?

A high-end mid is surely a need, would we dare pick a vic metro like Lorenzo (grandson of Hawks premiership captain apparently)? There also seems to be a few key defenders around, that would also be a gutsy move given our talent identification for key defenders peaked in 2009 (Talia) but if we don't then I hope we have a free agency plan instead.

Has to be midfield.

Would also consider using our 2024 first rounder to help get an elite midfield talent.

Aside from that we need a Brodie Smith replacement and a KPD to make up for the McAsey pick being an abysmal failure.

We need a player that would be in discussion as the best player in the AFL on our list

So... we need to draft that I guess

Are we sure Moir is "just" a forward at this point?

Wouldn't surprise at all if he moves into the midfield in his top age year.
Lot of water to go under the bridge, hopefully both Moir and Duursma get more time in the middle next year

If they do, and succeed there, it will be a great year to draft a top 10 mid

So... we need to draft that I guess
  • Top 10 in league midfielder (185cm+)
  • Smith replacement (half back that can rebound and defend at a high level)
  • CHB that has offensive capabilities, but can also shut down

Reckon they are the list holes we have, as it stands. First one probably has to be drafted, but hopefully we can snag a FA/trade that fills one of the last two needs

Controversial but I’d love the WA ruck Edwards

205cm already and very good skill set for AFL

Patton could be a good get if he got to our NM 2nd rounder as a Brodie Smith replacement type

Moir could be around the mark with our first pick. He's a gun. Provisional first pick is #5. I still maintain my previous comments, we need speed and more mid depth imo. Since Dave Mackay left we have lost run out of the back half. We have a reasonably good draft hand in 2023 with 5, 19, 26, 56 & 79. If we can get another 1st or 2nd round pick that will go a long way in contending in 2027ish.

Would love to grab Philactides or Patton with our North Melb 2nd rounder if still there as that running explosive defender

First pick might be in zone for Mckercher , hopefully he grows another 2cm but is a super smooth moving inside/ out mid …. The Tassie thing might put us off re the new Tassie team

I absolutely love the WA ruck Edwards and think he could end up top 3 ruck in league so I’d have no hesitation grabbing him either with any of our picks

Be interesting to see if any of Moir , Delean, Duursma , Tholstrup are able to show midfield ability next season after being highly effective half forwards predominantly

Yeah, would love to see at least one or two of these guys make the next step, into the middle or even off a wing. Would add some real high-level game-breakers to the top end of the draft. I like any of Lorenz, Frangalas or McAuliffe for us as well, in regards to taller mids that should add a POD

Obviously things will become clearer over the course of next year, though

Chief What's the go with posting media links via the media facility....they were there, now there's just a blank space?
As Scorpus said - it's being worked on right now after an update didn't behave as expected.

I'm the same I want to see Delean get some mid time but atm he's a little too small for a mid at AFL level. Duursma could easily develop into a wingman and Tholstrup is probably going to be the third fwd or back. Philactides is the fastest is the crop and would be a great replacement for D.Mac or even a mid/wing. I'm not sure too many teams will be put off by Tassie kids wanting to go home. I'm just not sure where we can land him with our current picks. We really need another rnd 1 or 2 selection.

Good to see Otis Harvey in the squad. I've heard and seen some good things on the bottom ager.
