A Coleman medal winner will never win the Brownlow these days or in the future until you get the majority of umpires have played at.AFL level or state league level. The dills of the last 20 years only really give votes to mid fielders.

Syd Coventry managed 3/5 in 1927, with the Collier brothers managing 3/5 in back to back years in 1929 and 1930. All 3 were named in the GF bests in the respective years, however none got close to leading the goal kicking.

Syd Coventry 1927 - Brownlow, B&F, premiership
Albert Collier 1929 - Brownlow, B&F, premiership
Harry Collier 1930 - Brownlow, B&F, premiership

No player in the league was better than buddy in 2008. The fact he didn't win it that year should have caused an immediate restructure of the medal.

As for this year, given that fyfe was not eligible and Ablett missed half the year, buddy was probably the next best and should have won it. Don't think you will find too many people would think Priddis had a better year than him

The Brownlow, Best and Fairest, Norm Smith Medal, All Australian, AFL MVP and premiership player is far more obtainable. How many have come close to that? Or Conversely the Coleman instead of the brownlow.
Tredrea in 2004 got a premiership, Port Adelaide B&F, was favourite going into the Brownlow won by C Judd, AFLCA Player of the year, AA vice captain, 3rd in the Coleman, but average game in the GF

Nb also won the Showdown medal, which is no great shakes but some players list an Anzac Medal on their football CV so.....

Premiership, B&F, Brownlow, Norm Smith, and Coleman in the 1 year.

It's never happened but who has got the closest ?

In 1988 Jason Dunstall won the premiership, the Coleman, the B&F and finished 3rd in the Brownlow and kicked 7 in the GF so must have been very close to the Norm Smith, I've been told he was 2nd but can't fund the votes anywhere.

Buddy won the same 3 medals in 08 and was 5th in the Brownlow but his GF was average. although he was clear bog in a final just 2 games earlier and again two finals before that.

So it is possible however unlikely. The biggest hurdle would be a non mid winning the Brownlow.

Who else got close ? Ablett 89?
Really should add the MVP to those list of medals. It's the biggest individual medal in the game.

I dont really like including the Coleman in these sorts of things, its just a stat, and not a stat readily applicable to 90% of players. You may as well count players who have had the most hardball gets.
The norm smith and premiership medal can only go to players in sides that can make the grand final. It excludes over 80 percent of players.

True and by that measure only 10% (goal kickers) of the 20%(teams in grand final) can do that double - ie only 2% of the overall competition. No wonder it is so rare.

Buddy should have won the Brownlow in 2008.
Quite ridiculous that he didn't considering how dominant he was.

If he played the exact same season that he did that year in 2015, now that he's a household name, he'd win the Brownlow by 12 votes.

Doubt it. Forwards increasingly just don't get the kudos in the Brownlow.
Refer my post earlier. When Judd win in 2004, he starts off his acceptance by stating "I thought Tredrea was a shoo in". And given tredders won every other award that year, he wasn't blowing smoke. ...

Franklin finished high in the Brownlow this year, and he was far more dominant in 2008. It was scary.

If he plays 2015 exactly how he did in 2008, he bolts it in.

Fixed it for you

Much to be liked about this post! Can't see beyond the small bloke running next to them for most of the game.

Still amazes me that Senior only won one B and F. Luckily Junior made up for it.

Coventry did it in 1927

Brownlow- Coventry
Leading Goalkicker- Coventry
Best on Ground in the GF- Coventry
Collingwood B and F - Coventry
Premiership Captain- Coventry

;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Just dont tell anybody there were two Coventrys!!!! Your secret is safe with me.
