I think a lot of posters on here are blatently attacking the messenger without hearing the message.
And I think a lot of people are homophobes but in denial.
I'd love to see the public reaction if Nathan Buckley came out and said "my marriage is a front." How many Collingwood fans would be accepting of that? Maybe they'd continue to not believe it.
Certainly, already players get booed and jeered for such things as playing for another team or in Jason Akkermanis' case, simply having off-field issues with his club.
I can't imagine why a gay player would ever come out publicly in such a climate of unacceptance and ignorance so prevelant in the football world.
