appreciate the recommendations in this thread, I am looking for a new phone myself, dont use it a lot so dont want to go on a plan and just want to stay on pre paid.

Currently have a Samsung but looking to change after it gave me troubles while travelling a few months ago.

Went with the Xiaomi Redmi note 2 prime. Same as the 3 less a gig a ram and 100 dollars cheaper. Lets see what $225 gets you in the way of a smart phone.

I have a Samsung J1. It's a campaigner of a thing, makes me feel violent sometimes, but it gets the job done for $219.

An old iPhone would obviously be the most ideal. If you're in the market for a cheap android however, you shouldn't go past the Moto G or E. Both examples of a high quality product at a low price.

Use a low-end Microsoft phone for work. It's pretty solid (Microsoft bought out Nokia), but a bit slow. Doesn't have as much apps etc as Android or IOS.

Asus ZenFone 2 is what I'm using right now. 6" screen, great camera and easy to use. All for around 300

This - have one two. Has 4 gig of ram, quad core processor. Great bang for buck.
