BigFooty Top 50 Favourite Albums - The Final Countdown!

How does this marry up with the Big Footy list?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/events/overrated/shortlist.shtml

I agree on a few of these...
More or less, I agree on all of the albums listed by the BBC as overrated.
It's got a very British slant this list. I dislike the Smiths as much as I dislike Radiohead, perhaps even more, so my bias is clear. Coldplay are just (expletive), never understood the love for Pet Sounds to be honest. Although I don't love U2, they are a very good band and The Joshua Tree is the album that launched them into the stratosphere of the world's last super group so if anything I would say that's IMHO is probably the harshest. It's difficult to critisize the Beatles, so I won’t.
There are actually a lot of people who criticse the Beatles for being too derivative of artists like Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, and I myself actually own only Are You Experienced (and for me Hendrix’ voice is an acquired taste), Marquee Moon and a few downloads from Led Zeppelin IV.

The British slant is definitely real, and may reflect the tastes of Australian audiences as well as the fact that record company promotion has always been done much more deeply in Europe than in North America.

Seriously:
1. Godspeed you Black Emperor- F#A#infinity
2. Oasis- What's the Story Morning Glory
3. Muse- Origin of Symmetry
4. Radiohead- The Bends
5. In the Woods- Omnio
6. Slowdive- Souvlaki
7. Tool- Aenima
8. Devin Townsend- Ocean Machine
9. Swans- White Light From the Mouth of Infinity
10. Biosphere- Substrata

I'd say they are the ten albums that have had the most influence on my life. Nine of them 90's albums, with only Origin of Symmetry in 2001.

Odd to see no Queen and barely any Bowie in the nominations. It would have been hard to drop Night At The Opera or Queen 2 out of my list, likewise Hunky Dory or Ziggy Stardust.

So what happens now? Is there a final compilation?

Marlowe

I don't know. Is that what the people want? I am open to all ideas.

Personally, I was thinking of doing a 'Best of the 1980s' one next because that decade was overlooked. I also think it was one decade where the highest-ranked album (Master of Puppets) isn't the perfect representation of the era (as much as I love the album). If we did the 60s, 70s, 90s or 00s, I reckon The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Radiohead would still reign supreme, I don't think that'd be true with Metallica.

Release a Double CD compilation? :D

The 80s countdown would be very interesting - it wasn't ALL bad...

Well I just want to know which albums got the most votes.

There is supposed to be a bigfooty top 50 of all time.

Please make it happen Marlowe :rainbow:

Oh, do you want to know how many votes each album got? Sure. :D

I am a little sick right now; will get it done later today. :rainbow:

I could create a playlist on Youtube instead. ;)

Give Godspeed You! Black Emperor a listen. God is an Astronaut is another one. Those 2 plus Explosions in the Sky are probably my favourite post rock bands.

Lift Your Skinny Fingers probably should have been in my top 10. Their show at ATP last year was arguably the best i've seen too.
