3rd. Jack Darling

Games: 22

Goals: 39

Votes: 1023

Weighted average: 23.12

Best match: Rd 3 vs St Kilda – 4.51

BOG performances – Rd 3 vs St Kilda, Rd 5 vs Port Adelaide

Now into his fourth season, Darling spent more time in the midfield than usual and it was reflected in his stats – the ninja flipper extraordinaire totalled career highs in possessions and clearances but kicked less goals than he managed in 2012 and 2013 (though his 39 goals was still second on the team behind Kennedy). He polled particularly well in the early part of the season and led the award until shortly before voting went in camera.

2nd. Luke Shuey

Games: 20

Goals: 17

Votes: 1101

Weighted average: 31.21

Best match: Rd 17 vs Brisbane – 4.91

BOG performances – Rd 2 vs Melbourne (tied), Rd 6 vs Carlton, Rd 17 vs Brisbane, Rd 18 vs Richmond, Rd 21 vs Essendon

The goal-kicking midfielder had a reasonable first half of the season with a handful of good performances before coming home with a wet sail in the final seven rounds, playing a big part in the Eagles’ ultimately unsuccessful charge towards a finals berth. Shuey averaged 27 possessions and 7 clearances in those final seven games, was judged best on ground in three of them and was in the top three or four players in the others as he looked primed to finally take the next step.

And the winner is ...

BigFooty WCE Player of the Year. Eric MacKenzie

Games: 22

Goals: 2

Votes: 1243

Weighted average: 37.52

Best match: Rd 16 vs Sydney – 4.86

BOG performances – Rd 11 vs North Melbourne, Rd 15 vs Fremantle, Rd 16 vs Sydney

Was there ever any doubt? The runner-up last year, Darren Glass’ protégé took his game to yet another level in 2014 as his sensei retired. Week after week he took on and beat the opposition’s best power forward with a minimum of fuss, while also becoming a useful tool on the counterattack. Remarkably he polled votes in 20 of the 22 games, and was in the top five vote-getters in 13 games, giving his teammates no chance of catching him. His best games came against North Melbourne (held Petrie quiet despite the Roos dominating), Fremantle (22 possessions and 11 marks while holding Pav to a single goal) and Sydney (kept the $10m man to a single goal). MacKenzie has been named in the AA squad for the second year running and has become a surprising but genuine contender for the captaincy in 2015.

Rightful winner there, no surprises. Just needs the AA full back to his name to cap the year off.

Huge effort by Fivestrings, well done, great thread as per usual.

Now we have to wait til next year for our club b+f...........

Pretty good top 10. Good write up :thumbsu:. Decent voting by the board. I expect Gaff/Kennedy/Priddis/Hurn to be slightly higher in the club b+f. Hope Mackenzie wins it.

As apt today as it was then:

Eric Mackenzie,
the Epic Defendzie,
I'll be sponsoring,
while he'll be monstoring,
Opponents; failed goal-kicking proponents,

Ezy E molesting,
Ruckmen supposedly resting;
Avoiding the forward 50,
Like they got goal-kicking allergy,
Here comes an analogy:

He's like an AFL Jesus!
More punch than pungent cheeses,
His legend Suma Magic be spreading,
Cloke, Buddy and Kepler dreading,
Their efforts he's foiling,
all the while spoiling:

Marks and dreams,
as Ezy E reams,
all 17 teams,
disposal hospital clean,
an AFL Dean:

From the school of defending,
AFL equivalent of goal tending,
On Twitter he's perennially trending,
KPF careers are ending,
Palestine/Israel relationships he's mending.

Mackenzie's softly spoken,
Silent as endless records are broken,
Bitches Facebook poking,
looking for a slice of Mackenzie action,
bit of midnight traction:

I'm getting off-topic,
Rhyme turning into an epic,
so I'm bailing,
Eric Mackenzie 2012 All-Australian.

I hate to be a stickler, but that's a simile, not an analogy. Just kidding, awesome work.

Great stuff again Fivey. I was considering doing an assessment of each player, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as this, so there's no point. I guess I'll have to do some work instead, damn it.

So in our eyes, Mackenzie 1st, whilst Priddis is 6th..

Interesting to see what the club comes up with again this year.

I have no doubt you'll come up with all kinds of reasons why a non-compulsory forum voting system with a random number of voters each week is superior to the Eagles B&F.

I don't support playing him, yet i still give him votes.

I think peoples ability to be impartial could surprise you sir.

Hmm. You gave him a total of 10 votes. He averaged 21.

Our opinion will be the correct one of course!

My tip for the club B&F would be Priddis 1st and Mackenzie 2nd, although I do think Mackenzie is more likely to make AA than Priddis... But Priddis is more likely to poll higher brownlow votes than Mackenzie (midfielders award and all that)

Here's my own vote tally compared with the overall results:

Can do a similar exercise for anyone who voted for every game and who asks nicely :)

Afl.com had both eMac and Priddis making AA
