Great career, but Holman was honestly a fair way passed his best. There's better options in the side, I'd rather see Rogic/Bresciano starting.

What happened to him? First 6 months at Villa were excellent then fell out of favour. Offered big bucks in the middle east and took them rather then fighting for his place at Villa. Still a quality player though. I cannot fathom why he'd want to retire before the World Cup.

His first 6 months was good though under Lambert. Started regularly and played well.

Lambert had a massive focus on playing youth last season. Didn't fit into those plans.

I only ever thought he was average. Was at the Oman qualifier in Sydney where he scored the long range goal to save our blushes and end up with a 2-2 draw.

The writing was definitely on the wall.
