White was involved in a late-night altercation last Tuesday where it was claimed he punched a man outside a Melbourne nightspot after allegedly being verbally abused and filmed against his own wishes.

White has co-operated with police and it is understood there are mitigating circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Blues defender today appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates Court where he avoided conviction over the assault and was placed on a court diversion program despite the wishes of his victim. As well as delivering a formal apology to his victim, White has been ordered to pay $2000 to charity

A diversion program allows mainly first-time offenders to avoid conviction by undertaking to fulfil certain conditions, to benefit the offender, the victim and the community as a whole.

The accused must acknowledge responsibility for the offence and police must agree to the diversion.

These negotiations might take a while.

He is also in discussions with Mr Soccio about a compensation payment.
