Commonwealth Budget 2015

In relation to minerals situated within state boundaries, first sight, the power to legislate for minerals remains with the states.

Your argument is moot - we already had a 100% legal and legitimate Mineral Resources Tax - the tax rate was just a joke cause lil Kev got scared. We could have had a system almost identical to Norway and would have reaped massive rewards.

Yeah okay sorry. I'll pay for his mistakes. Deal with it.

I reckon we've hashed out the petty arguments - time to get back to the current budget (if anyone has anything left to say on it)

The boats have stopped

The boats haven't stopped setting sail you muppet - they've just stopped getting to Australia (temporarily).
Anyway, are we going to get back to the budget or keep this tit for tat s**t up? If you aren't talking budget I'm done with the thread

Edited for the sake of Xsess's pedantic bullshit

They've stopped reaching Australia which was a goal. So they've stopped the boats. This is what's implied and that's the message I always took from the statement. I'm pretty sure the majority do too.

How long do you think that will last though? Read one of my earlier posts and have a look at the news - multiple boats sinking in and around the Malay Peninsula, inept Thai, Malay and Indonesian governments trying to deal with it - this won't last long and before you can say Sovereign Borders there will be a whole lot of boats going unchecked by our Northern neighbours and knocking down our door. Once again - can you flogs get back to the budget or are you incapable of letting a debate die?

Wild exaggeration. You seem to have no idea at all about this issue.

In reality the vast, vast majority of people smuggler boats that came to Australia in the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd originated in Indonesia and were crammed with people smuggler customers who had first flown into Djakarta on passenger jets from the other side of the world - the Middle East. Around 50K of them over four years.

They no longer come since the Abbott govt quickly put a stop to the racket.

The boats heading for Malaysia and Indonesia (not Australia) have originated in a people smuggler hub in Thailand specialising in Rohingans plus Bangladesh economic migrants. None of the passengers have been buying people smuggler tickets with a guarantee of Australian citizenship attached.

The only way such boats could head for Australia is if Indonesia and Malaysia directed them here - which could happen but is unlikely.

No I mean Australia's resources.

Imagine if this mentality in regards to resources was done prior to WA's mining boom. WA would be stuffed.

Meanwhile, those of us blessed to be born with a brain look at the moves by China and Vale and see a cruise missile heading towards Australia. At least politicians and public servants have a life indexed pension, so it won’t be their problem!

Oh dear. Stop. Just stop.

By keeping most of the last year's budget cuts, and introducing new ones in the May budget, the Abbott government is stripping more than $15 billion over four years from families and lower-income Australians, new analysis by the Australian Council of Social Service shows.

Yet, they have significantly increased the deficit. Better economic vandals.

The report, obtained by Fairfax Media, says most of the $800 million revenue increases projected over the next five years come from income tax bracket creep and projected economic growth.

Their "real" solution.

Meanwhile the "Tax Whitepaper" sham that is all about raising the GST:

Changes to super and negative gearing are excluded.

What say you now, conservative cheerleaders?

I don't know why you have a problem with negative gearing, it is a legitimate personal expense that is available to everyone.
If you borrow a small amount for an investment that will pay you some income then the interest expense is deductable from your income.
