Hafeez Handmissing I thought it was? Of course that's going back to the Original "It's just not cricket" - I had it on cassette. There was a side that had all the swear words in it, the other side had them "beeped" out.....until the end where they just played all the swear words at once.

Wow, on vinyl - classic!

Cook would have been in 2 minds on that 4th evening - "do I bat until stumps and let Gary Ballance get his first Test ton, or do I leave him stranded and have a go at the Sri Lankans tonight?" His ultimate decision told against him in the end.

It'll be interesting to see if something similar happens in the England v India series next month. The Indians refuse to use DRS, so if they lose their last wicket to a dodgy LBW off the second last ball of the Test, that's the end of the Test :)

Alastair Cook is a bit sensitive at the moment (Guardian)

Love him or loathe him, Stuart Broad has become only the 4th bowler in Test history to take 2 Test hat tricks - following in the footsteps of Jimmy Matthews (who did it twice in the same Test!!!), Hugh Trumble and Wasim Akram. He achieved it overnight in the Second Test against Sri Lanka, but wasn't even aware he'd done so. He dismissed Sangakkara off the last ball of one over, and then took wickets off the first 2 balls of his next over.

So the guy might have trouble walking, but he can certainly bowl :)

Match scores after day 1 - Sri Lanka 257, England 0 for 36.

I think there's a bit of merit in some of Warne's criticisms of Cook being a negative captain, but I think Cook is right in that it's getting pretty personal. Warney loves to talk up his mates and doesn't need much fuel to come out and smash anyone on the wrong side of them.

It's since been confirmed that Broad is the first female to take 2 Test hat tricks :)

I still have that casette. Had a mate copy it to CD, sound is pretty crappy

Yep - looks like they are gone. As usual one of their wickets is their nightwatchman, so 4 batsmen gone. I don't think they have the fortitude to get out of this one.

Quotes himself - w*nker

They almost held out - 5th ball of the last over of the test. Even I'll admit that was a pretty good effort. Of course England was all over SL being 3-311 in the first innings. Fell in a hole after that. It takes a special talent to lose from there.

India, masters of playing cr*p away from home might even be licking their lips.

I have that cassette too, which was a copy of a cassette. I think the copy might have even pre-dated dual cassettes with high speed dubbing. That would have it in the realm of the "place one cassette player in front of the cassette recorder". Of course it's probably oxidised so badly now anyway.

Kids these days, mp3 download (legit or otherwise). Getting copied content in the 80s - that required dedication.

You would have originally stencilled a wax record hey mate?

Sri Lanka's last 3 wickets put on 180, and they won by 100. Michael Clarke would have had a massive smile on his face this morning!!!

First Test between England and India starts on July 9.

Feeling sorry for the Poms is about as foreign to me as feeling sorry for the Crows after a Showdown loss. This week has started beautifully: hopefully Port can make it an even better week on Sunday!!!!
Yeah I did say should feel a little bad but of course deep down I don't at all lol.

From a neutral cricket fans point of view it would've been similar to when Kaspa & Binga had that last stand but because it was a Pom who's given his fair share of torment to us I couldn't give a rats toss bag hence why I posted it to laugh at his pain :D

Never a truer word spoken, Seany. It makes me smile to think that, only 8 short months ago, Ian Botham opened his big mouth and predicted that England would win the Ashes 5-0. Things seem to have gone from bad to worse for the Poms since then: long may it continue :)

I don't think Cook will invite Warnie to his Christmas party, but I reckon the spin king is on the money:

The UK cricketing authorities have often looked at the captain as a specialist role. Australia has generally required the players to be in form enough to hold their place in the side and then pick the captain from that.

In practice there may not be much practical difference however the way I see it:

Stephen Fleming and Michael Clarke are probably the two recent examples (of captains) of being able to change the outcome of a game because of their captaincy. Paradoxically, Clarke could have retained his place on captaincy IMO. Cook is not this guy.

As he's not changing the game with either batting or captaincy at the moment, incumbency and a desire for stability can be the only thing keeping him where he is.

Adelaide is in the box seat for a historic day/night test match against New Zealand in 2015, what are your thoughts on this guys? Crash Craddock was on the back page & said we'll win out against Hobart who are also bidding for it.

I think it'd end up be pretty good event at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, I saw part of their trial with the pink ball last year it worked alright & kept it's shape.

I posted a pic of the ball on page 8 of this thread when we were discussing it earlier in the year.

From what I hear, the players aren't too keen on the idea. It'll be interesting to see what happens if it goes ahead - question is, how much play will actually played after dark? Assuming a 2pm start, stumps would be around 9pm. With daylight saving in full swing, play would probably finish around dusk, before the lights take full effect.

But I'd hate to see the Ashes played with a pink ball: it'd seem like sacrilege to play against the old enemy with something other than the traditional red ball.

On another note, I read tonight that the Test series between England and India will be live on Fox Sports, starting on July 9. I guess Foxtel received enough complaints over the non televising of the recent England v Sri Lanka series, to make them overturn their decision to boycott this series as well. So good news for the cricket fan for a change: now I just have to convince my cricket hating wife to go to bed early, so I can watch a bit of it :)
