AFL Autopsy def. by BLOODS KULCHA

What's the ******* point of saying that you are cracking down on players leading with the head and then continually rewarding them with free kicks.

Anybody blaming the umpiring is deluded. Dumb football at crucial times cost us. Especially from senior players or leaders. Winderlich jumping over the top of Tippett, think it was Chappy's tackle on McVeigh, Myers blazing indiscriminantly for the McGlynn goal.

The two positives were Hurley; dominated and Heppell is clutch.
Not blaming the umps for the loss, but at least give us a chance. Sydney are definitely a 4-5 goal better side than us, but that's ridiculous. They don't need to be favoured so much to beat us.

Yep, I think we were outplayed tonight; the umpiring was crap, but they played better, seemed to have more numbers around the contest etc.

We win together, we lose together. It's hard to beat a team with an extra 9.8% salary cap when they have the umpires kissing their asses. Regroup, win all 4 games that we should win and onto finals!

To lose by only 22 in Sydney when we were playing like absolute crap throughout pretty much the entire match isn't a bad effort on paper even though they are without Franklin.

Few Points:
  • Umpires. Just gonna leave it at that
  • Kieran Jack ducking his head and looking for a free kick at every opportunity
  • Goodes.
  • Forward line really struggled once again, we lacked direction and vision
  • Kick ins, I think we might have had 2 kick ins go to an uncontested player for a positive gain instead of sideways
  • Complete lack of run early for being a week fresher
  • Backline held up pretty well besides a few blues from our mids
  • Geez for all the talent and weapons Sydney have they play such a terrible style of play
  • We did not look to switch the play and open up the ground anywhere near enough, Carlton last night showed that this can be effective against such defense driven teams
  • Jerret needs a spell
  • Keep TBC in, he can only improve from here
  • Goddard out of it
  • Hurley's best game this year?
In the end, a win was not expected. There should be no excuse to not win our next 4 games and solidify our place in the 8.

We looked panicy all night. Fumbly and played as if there was serious pressure there all night when there wasnt.

Some serious fumbling from colyer, winder, demps ect ect

Mark Ricciuto just said that was our worse loss in a very long time. Thanks meat head.
He also said Josh Kennedy could get himself "another Brownlow", so, yeah..

Good stuff, Roo.

Brings back memories of ...........

Round 2, 2011 @ ANZ stadium
Sydney 14.14 98
Essendon 13.15 93

Goddard pathetic for a senior player.
Dempsey was horrid.
Bellchambers... why was he even selected? So so s**t.
J.Merrett just doesn't look like he cares at all.

Hurley had a great game, but unfortunately it will be completely ignored and he'll get torn to shreds over that slip.
Ryder is a beast. Top 5 B&F easily.
Z.Merrett continues to impress.
Heppell the clearance king yet again.

Swans are still the benchmark, we've gotta remember that, regardless of why they're the benchmark.

Our ball use uncharacteristically killed us tonight, I'm taking a fair bit of heart in the fact that bar a couple of really bad clangers, we were absolutely **** deep in that game after quarter time

Getting within 10points means Jack s**t. You simply can't give 25+ point leads to top 4 teams and expect to win.

When we stop doing that is when we Will threaten top 4.

That's where the game was lost, not umpires.. A top 4 team once they get a lead like the swans did they will 99% of the time be able to protect that lead.

Good second half, but Sydney definitely tired. They had no run in the 3rd.
They are just too efficient for us. Until we can be as good as them defensively and use the ball as well, we would need luck and everything to run our way to beat them.
They are too good at this stage.
Having said that, our second half was good enough to match or beat everyone else except Hawthorn.
The first half, though, showed us up.
Sydney did what Sydney do, and that’s more than enough to beat a side that don’t spread and use the ball to open up the game and keep them running.
Did anyone else notice the fact that Sydney played on, took kick ins quickly, and spread, whenever they got it in the back half. How many times did they look up and have to kick long to a contest? Almost never.
How many times did we have to kick long to a contest coming out of the back? Look at the kick ins, and how many times we still had possession in the clear after the second kick, versus how many times Sydney did.
They are good, and we are about 5 goals behind them, not in talent or endeavour or fitness or anything else. They just play more efficiently both when they have the ball and when the opposition has the ball. They are what we need to become.

PS Didn't think the umpiring cost us. The usual no. of dodgy frees and costly consequences, but thought it went both ways in the main.
