Welcome back. The Players MVP was voted on in a 3-2-1 fashion every week throughout the season from those who wished to partake. It is possibly the highest off-field honour at the club. I’m proud to present THIRD PLACE in this award to two posters who fittingly finished on level points. These are two of the most creative posters in the side; one a wily veteran, one very much a new kid on the block. They both had fantastic seasons off the field, so congratulations to Mr Eagle and Captain Awkward on your podium finishes in the Players MVP award for Season 18.

SECOND PLACE belonged to a poster who absolutely made Season 18 his own. Bursting onto the Waverley scene, this player made a profile for himself within just one season, holding a highly influential position in the midfield for the entirety of the season. He’s never short of an omen, and he’s our host tonight, congratulations Clint Beastwood on finishing second in the Season 18 Players MVP.

And finally, the WINNER. Who else could this go to but the poster who proudly flew our flag in every single match thread of the season. There were weeks when this man was the face of the club, batting down opponents and always having a good time whilst doing it. He’s a gentle giant and possibly our most team-oriented player, well done on an outstanding break-out season and a deserving win in the Players MVP…

We’ll be back for Round 9 after the break.

Round 9 v Baghdad Bandits @ Abdu Prison

Baghdad Bandits 15.8 (98) defeated East Side Hawks 13.13 (91)

Having recently lost star recruit Atley and coming off three consecutive close losses, the Hawks were bound for some luck. The Hawks saw this game as a reconnaissance mission, their plan: To bust in, kick some Bandits in the head and break Atley out.

It seemed that luck was indeed on the Hawks' side as they kicked the first 3 goals of the game, with Tarkyn_24 strengthening his Alfie credentials by kicking the first two. The first quarter was a high scoring affair with Tarks kicking 3, Dagless kicking 2 and the Hawks leading by a solitary point. Inaccuracy was the story for the Hawks in the second quarter as they kicked 2.5. Tarkyn_24 would kick his fourth and the Hawks lead by 10 points at half time.

Inaccuracy was rampant once again as the Hawks tallied 4.5 in the third quarter. Tarkyn_24 added another two goals to extend his tally to six. Despite having 8 more scoring shots, the Hawks would only lead by 8 points at three quarter time. Tarkyn_24 would kick his eighth and final goal of the game at the start of the last to extend the Hawk's lead to 14 points. Unfortunately it was all one way traffic from there with the Bandits piling on 4 goals to take the game out by 7 points. All too familiar territory for the East Side Norfs.

The show belonged to Itsmyshow for BOG honours for the Hawks. The veteran amassed 10 kicks, 17 handballs and an impressive 8 tackles. The other standouts for the Hawks were Tarkyn_24 with his 7 goals, Dagless, WaLkEr_ThE_StAr and Captain Awkward.

Round 10 - Swamprats
In round 10 we were the hosts to a Swamprats side who had slightly better form than us, having won two and lost two prior to the game, meanwhile we were on a 4 loss streak. Our previous encounter with them had seen a close contest finished with us falling away to lose by a few goals. This week saw Captain Awkward and ryan_seb kick their first career goals as we ran out 46 point winners, 116-70 to be exact in a win that I was personally shocked in. Oh and to make it even better Logger posted the results twice! We got to feel that winning sensation, twice! Our best on ground was once again IMS with a 27 possession game, 103DT points and a goal to boot! Captain Awkward and larrikin also played exceptional games, CA with a tidy 27 possessions and as stated his first career goal! Meanwhile larrikin dominated the midfield and forward line with 11 hit outs and 2 goals!
MVP vote predictions: 3. Rendered Unsafe 2. Clint Beastwood 1. Mr Eagle

Thanks to Captain Awkward and Rendered Unsafe for those sterling wraps. Without further ado (okay maybe a little), what everyone is after – the votes.

A slight surprise in Round 9 with Tarks’ almost game-winning 7 goal haul up front securing maximum votes over an outstanding performance from Itsmyshow in the midfield. IMS still secures 8 votes over the 2 weeks whilst CA and Tarks manage 5 each. GutsyBug presents: the post-Round 10 leaderboard.

IMS extends his lead as Dagless begins to wallow in the latter stages of the season. Tarkyn_24 is on the hunt whilst strong finishes to the season from the likes of Clint Beastwood mean challenges are well and truly forthcoming. The leaderboard will now be done away with until the post-BnF reveal.

Round 11 and 12 will now be presented by larrikin and Captain Awkward.

In Round 11 The Mt Buller Demons were fixtured for their annual Waverley flogging. The build up to the game was quieter than most weeks, with the notabrle exception of of scaryness who had by far his biggest week of the year. After the customary cracks of going to the snow dried p a game broke out, which saw the Hawks jump to an early lead which they steadily built to a solid 22 points at halftime. The Demons came back in the 3rd to turn for home 5 point behind but the Hawks resumed normal transition to run away with a 24 point win.

For the Hawks Rendered Unsafe was dominant with 36 possessions and 137 DT points. He was ably supported by 2nd gamer DeeWong6996 and WaLkEr_ThE_StAr , whilst Tarkyn_24 kicked a lazy 6 goals 4 from 10 possessions.

Round 12 v Dragons FFC @ Waverley Park

East Side Hawks 5.12 (42) lost to Dragons FFC 11.12 (78)

The Hawks were travelling relatively well, having won their last two games comfortably since the bye. Last quarter fadeouts had turned into last quarter junk time as they managed to sort out their fitness issues. Round 12 saw them come up against their rivals, the Dragons in their first return game of the season. The Dragons had pipped the Hawks in their previous encounter with a last quarter flurry and the Hawks were out for redemption.

"Inaccurate" is the word to describe the first quarter of this match with the Dragons kicking 2.6.18 to the Hawks 0.2.2 to lead by 16 at quarter time. larrikin kicked the first goal for the Hawks in the second quarter as the Hawks kicked into gear. Goals to Dagless and Mr Eagle saw the Hawks trim the Dragon's lead to 8 points at half time.

The third quarter was a bit of a non-event for both sides. The Hawks squandered various opportunities to register 1.4 for the quarter. Tarkyn_24 showed up and kicked his first. The Dragons lead by 12 points at three quarter time. The last quarter was one to forget for the Hawks as the Dragons kicked 4 unanswered goals to win the game by 6 goals. The Hawks finished the game with a score line of 5.12.42...

Itsmyshow was best on ground for the Hawks, amassing 9 kicks, 13 handballs and 7 tackles. Other notable performers were Mr Eagle and Clint Beastwood.

Thanks again folks. Another win-loss one-two. The votes were as seen below.

Rendered Unsafe, Mr Eagle, Clint Beastwood, Itsmyshow; the big poll-pullers were amongst it again. With just six games to go until the curtain falls on the East Side season, Itsmyshow remains hot favourite.

Round 13 and 14 were pivotal to our season’s hopes, and Rendered Unsafe takes the wheel.

Round 13 - Roys FFC
In round 13 and my personal favourite 'banter' game we were once again hosts to the Roys FFC who were just like us, sitting middle of the table and this game was to put a firm hold on a position within the top 8. We had just come off a loss to the dragons the week before and were certainly looking to rectify that with a win this week. The odds were against us however as the Roys were favourites, however some say it's better to be the underdogs! However in this case, we lost the game 74-91 which of course makes our run to the finals that bit harder! In what was quite an even game, both sides struggled to have any real major 'out there' players, our best being the talented Mr Eagle who racked up 19 possessions and a goal to his name!

Round 14 - Las Vegas Bears
In round 14 we played host to the Bears again who we had defeated by 10 points back in round 5. At this stage we were on a two game losing streak and losing our grip on a potential finals spot. With roughly fifteen minutes left in the game, the teams were inseparable with 123 a piece, before bombersno1 managed to blow the game open with a massive goal! From there it was nothing but Hawks as we managed to pile on 3 goals before the Bears could snag one back. We eventually ran out 7 point winners 149-142 and kept our small finals window slightly ajar. We has three stand out players in larrikin, IMS and Rendered Unsafe who managed 123, 113 and 101 DT points respectively, with IMS snagging three goals as well. Larrikin was our clear best on ground though managing 15 hit outs, 32 possessions and a goal!

Two fun weeks off-field, whilst on-field we were as per usual consistently inconsistent. Votes were spread pretty evenly across these games.
You do love an exclamation mark don't you RU :D

With larrikin’s 8 and Mr Eagle’s 5 the greatest hauls from this pair of rounds, the leaderboard becomes interesting. Could IMS be robbed at the final hurdle? We take a break next to recognise the Season 18 Biggie Medallist – East Side’s best first year player.
