Is it 7 days, or 7 working days for the money back thing? I got the game last monday, would they still accept it back Wednesday as there woul dhave been 3 public holiays in between?

Pretty sure there's no way in hell they wouldn't count public holidays and weekends in the 7 days.

I went to EB Games a year after getting Guitar Hero 3 on PS2 (I got it on release week). They offered me five bucks for the guitar and game. I had to bolt out of the store to stop myself from laughing in front of the nerd sales guy. Then another time for the lolz I asked through email how much I would get for my 6 month old Xbox 360 Pro (60gb) with Gears of War 1, Gears of War 2, Halo 3 and NBA 2K10. They offered me 180 bucks for a six month old console. I sent back an email saying your ****ing joking right? No reply. EB Games is just a big rip off and disgrace. I mean they use to suck me in when I was younger with their 50% off games at Christmas when the games were pretty much old and way cheaper than 50% off at Target and other places. I buy almost all my games online or at Target, K-Mart. I'll buy something from EB occasionally if it's the cheapest price out of every place. Games are way overpriced.

I have far too many guitars in my back room! Thats why we dropped the prices, get way too many traded in

About 50 of the ****ers (just my store)... cheers Activision!

360 pros have got SFA trade value as they continually break down and we gotta repair em every time they come back

Don't just believe it's all beer and skittles at GAME. I holding my breath over the release price of BF3 I have pre-ordered later this year. "We will only price match down to our cost price". Sounds like a big get out clause to me only to offset artificially inflated trade in prices....

The smartest consumers buy games at large department stores like Big W or Kmart with massive buying power and sell games on Ebay.

Recent example:

My brother just replaced his launch 360 with a new slim.

2 GB Slim with 1 wireless controller, headset, kinect, and kinect adventures game $299 at Kmart

^Game Price match $414

Additional info:
Original xbox 250gb hard drive off Ebay $60
less sell Kinect sensor and game on Ebay $-132.50
Total spend $226.50
(could still sell original 360 for $40 odd bucks as well!)

Thats the bad part about GAME (and like your example it gets really bad at times) they cant price match most of the time. When i needed a new PS3 they couldnt price match a 160gb slim for $397 at Harvey Norman, they were selling them for $550 so i traded my games in at JB and got them to price match for me.

AFL is another example, GAME wouldn't price match $79 at dick smiths but they would match JBs $89. Was gonna get it from EB until i knew about the $30 difference in trade in value for Crysis 2 between the 2 places so it worked out better to get it from GAME.

The cost price excuse is a bit of a cop out i suspect

Deserved a quote for truth.

Game stores are good for trading in (sometimes) but anyone with some sort of money sense would buy from where it is cheapest. Seeing people pay $100 for a new release title when someone like Target has exactly the same game for $79 makes me facepalm irl. Inflated pre owned prices are funny too, last year when i purchased MW2 it was $74 brand new at JB Hifi, $105 pre owned at EB and $99 pre owned at GAME

There must be plenty of stupid consumers out there willing to fork over this sort of money for the game stores to be charging this sort of price.

I've let this be known to some of my friends yet they still continue to shop at EB. It's as if they have an allegiance to them.

$397 is below cost. Don't blame them for not price matching.

And buying power doesn't really do anything in the gaming industry, it's just a matter of which retailer is willing to cop a loss with stupid bundles really. It's usually the K-Mart/Target/JB Hi Fi types cause they figure while you're buying gaming stuff under cost you'll also buy a shitty heater or printer while you're there. Gaming as a whole for retailers is a loss leader.

I've only got one PS3 game purchased in Aus. (NBA 2k11) and all the others I've gotten have been either from zavvi.com or 365games.co.uk and then obviously I can't trade them into GAME/EB/JB so I sell them on E-bay and generally can make about 70% back depending on the title of course.
(Zavvi is also good for Blu-Rays. I got Band of Brothers Blu-Ray, tin and all, for $30 (AUD) inc. shipping where retail here it was going for $100)

Also buying PC games I mainly use steam (including VPN to get games from Uk/US steam store cheaper) or if it is not on steam I buy from the above mentioned stores.

*Zavvi's postage is a couple of pound. 365games.co.uk postage to AUS is free.

Seriously go check it out and price match you'd be crazy not to atleast look.

Hardware is not profitable (consoles) but accessories and games are massively profitable.

I stopped going to EB over a year ago... it's pointless with the low trade-in values that they offer.

Accessories yes

New games no. Make a little money, but not enough to survive. And lose money on most price matches

This is where accessories and pre owned games play an important role in the "specialist"store's survival

Get the Pre Own program wrong, and you're in a bit of strife

Unsure on which of the following two to do.

1. Trade MW2, R&C Tools and LBP to JB Hifi to get Portal 2 for free

or

2. Trade MW2 and Bops to GAME to get Portal 2 cheap and LBP and R&C Tools to get a $1 game.

Correct. But only third party accessories and only sometimes. Any official accessory has no money in it.

LMFAO @ "cost price".

Do yous guys really believe that head office and franchise owners give sales staff a true cost price list???

They give you a list of the smallest margin they're prepared to work.

Like when I was buying a fridge and the Harvey Norman bloke could take off $100 from an $1800 appliance to get down to cost...

I looked around from far right to far left and asked, "so you're telling me, that in this building thats $600k a year, with $8 million worth of stock and more sales staff than customers that you only make 4% on $1800 and manage to keep the doors open? Mate you need to sell 8 fridges an hour just to cover wages."

No reply, the salesman was dumbfounded.
