Two rounds are in the book.



Round one was not a pleasant match with our mob suffering an almighty crunching by the Bears. Despite that, most players recorded some solid stats led by GWS Goose. Each of our rookies made a fabulous debut with HotPiesWithSauce getting their first goal in qooty.

Round two was much better with us finally prevailing over the Roys. GWS Goose again led the way on field with the sim being unnecessarily cruel to Tigerlaird and HotPiesWithSauce. Shout out to rye who has kicked 6.2 from two matches in the forward pocket in a dazzling display.

Any win is good but a win overcoming a deficit has an extra level of fabulousness. Aucklander was tremendous in the full back position while nobbyiscool, Dory_77 and Chat Pile played tremendous games. Chat Pile even got a hit out to put their hand up for the ruck position while nobbyiscool scored their first goal.​

The win sees us jump to fifth. Unfortunately our poor percentage could see us drop dramatically with a loss this week so let's keep banking those w's.






There will be a bit of a team sheet shuffle this week to try and reward some people for posting and try to get others into form in the sim's judgement.




Sadly just 11 posters for our matchup against the Royals. Hopefully a better showing this week.



We take on Ophidian who we have an unusual rivalry with. Their first win in the league was against us, their only finals loss was against us and we were the target of their first major media exposé. This is also the match of the round.

Well that was shizen. In muddy conditions, we barely fired a shot. I don't recall ever seeing a game where not one Gumbies player reached 50 DT. cats_09 scoring their first goal and HotPiesWithSauce playing well off half back the highlights.

The loss has seen us tumble to eighth. Our percentage is troublesome so hopefully we get a whopping win soon.




We've been unlucky with some of the weather and sim output leading to some lower than expected stats. We have noone in the top-50 of dreamteam in the league which is astounding, especially as we haven't had the bye. The mediocre ruck stats being put up by yours truly are going to make it easy to displace me from the role. Question is- who wants it?









It's the Bombers. A lot of things can be (and are) said about them, but they're never boring. Hope many of you poke your heads into the match thread.

The good news is none of the teams below us won at the weekend meaning we hold onto eighth. Unfortunately, our percentage is now horrendous so we must get on a winning streak to move up.





Our stats still aren't great due to the weather. The forward line has had a tough time and as such, I'll be shuffling the front six this weeks team sheet.





Thirteen contributors is solid. It was great to see saintkildaman pop their head in and two of our rookies, HotPiesWithSauce and nobbyiscool fire up.

After a close three quarters, we crunched the Dragons in the last with our accuracy crucial. Jeremias was huge putting in a Gumbies' season best performance with BlueE, Barrybran and NSWCROW all crucial.

We have jumped to fourth and with a few teams copping beltings, our percentage isn't as dire comparatively to some of the other teams. Defensively we're holding up well as the comp's most stingy but conversely, we've got the most tepid points for in the comp.





With two muddy games, followed by two rainy games our stats are middling. Good thing is we're winning and the weather should turn soon.







13 turning up for round six a good result considering the oil and vinegar relationship we have with the Wonders. Great to see our second best season figures last week against the Dragons but only ten posters is disappointing and hopefully we can up our weekly contributors for the rest of the season.

This Sunday against the Furies, Jeremias brings up 150 games for Gumbies FFC. Jeremias is a rare person indeed as one of two people from our season sixteen premiership still on our list (premiership co-captain StFly the other).

Jeremias has been an excellent role player over their career playing a lot of the less glamourous positions. Their career began in season seven with the Southern Sharks for their one and only season in the comp before their merger (shudder). After a recess, Jeremias returned to the league, and the (then Geelong) Gumbies, in season 13 sticking around until season 25.

Last season, Jeremias was coaxed back to the league and club by Wosh and we are very happy to have them back in Gumbania. On-field, Jeremias had their career best match on the weekend with 116 DT. Their previous best was in the season 21 grand final (which we sadly lost) but no fault of Jeremias with a huge performance in a losing cause.

As a mod on the Carlton board, Jeremias may well be quite busy modding cheers or tears posts depending on how the bluebaggers fare. So, as we may not see you much at the weekend, kudos to you on your 150th game and life membership with the club. You are the eleventh to that mark of which four others will be playing in our game- StFly, NSWCROW and Barrybran for us and Brick Loosener for the Furies.

Good weather, good stats and a great win to celebrate Jeremias' 150th match. It was also the club's 300th win making us the fourth club to the mark (Demons, Wonders and Bombers the others).

Almost everyone racked up the stats like Wayne Carey consumes his (crushed up) anti-inflammatories. GWS Goose returned to form with 34 touches, equalled by cats_09 in the best ruck performance by a Gumbies player in many seasons. Up forward, Chat Pile kicked eight and Mop three as they continue their battle for the full-forward spot.

The winning streak continues!



Behind at half time in round nine, we needed a good second half to prevail over the improving Demons... and boy did we deliver. It was a very even performance with 17 players treated nicely by the sim. GWS Goose probably bagged some Mobbs Medal votes, nobbyiscool made a great debut in the midfield and the 1-2-3 forward punch of rye Mop and Chat Pile continues to befuddle opposition defenders.

Once again (in round ten), we went into half time down on the scoreboard and this time it felt like the momentum was moving against us. rye was huge kicking eight from the forward pocket as we mounted a splendid second half performance. In a close last quarter, the Phoenix asked some good questions but we had the necessary answers to win and jump to top spot.

From half way through the first quarter until the final siren, we dominated our final home and away match. bone2468 (first career match topping 100DT) and cats_09 were brilliant, while there contributions all over the park. Seemingly coach decided NSWCROW (0% game time) and myself (24%) needed keep ourselves fresh for qeptember. So, 18 excellent players dominating on field and two people doing not a lot on the pine.

In our round sixteen match just played against the Royals, our friend beez reached 450 career Sweet FA matches. This means beez is a reallllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy old qootballer. Their journey began in season nine at the Wonders, before moving to [redacted] where beez played in two premierships and 291 games. In their time at [redacted] beez was part of three premierships, became a captain (and I believe a two-time premiership one at that) and won the inaugural players association medal now called the beez medal/trophy. Making the move here to Gumbania for season 29, beez is rapidly approaching club life membership.

beez is a big cricket fan, like myself, hence the choice of mascot in the banner above for this milestone match. 450 is a huge score in first class cricket and there is only one Australian who has reached the mark twice. That person (Bill Ponsford) being a proud Victorian, like beez, it only seemed appropriate to mark the occasion with a bee(z) playing cricket.

A blue moon- we won a week one final!!!! Dory_77 was outstanding, recording their highest dream team score. The match itself was pleasing with us putting in a four quarter effort and most players getting a nice set of stats.

A bit of a slower thread, yet another where we out posted or opponent. Thirteen contributors was good to see- growing at the right time of the year.



We have the week off before playing either the Bombers or Wonders in a prelim. They're both high-posting teams so rest up and prepare to banter and anecdote hard.



On Thursday night, there is this season's Rising Star. These are fun evenings with members of the sophomore class putting in a lot of hard work (I know for a fact Frederico_WA has this season). Ahead of the grand final on Sunday, there have been some awards handed out around the league. Some of our own have done quite well so let's summarise:

The Rising Star:
"The SFA Rising Star award was created to recognise the onfield and off-field achievements of the best of these rookies," back in S23. Since then, "the criterion for this award is a combination of on field and off field performance .The SFA Rising Star award is judged and awarded by the previous rookie class. It passes on from one rookie class to the next. It is not an officially recognised league award but is damn close.

All three of our rookies had fantastic seasons, so all drew a ranking (all a touch low maybe..?)

14th: HotPiesWithSauce


10th: nobbyiscool


7th: cats_09

The All-SFA:
As you can probably guess from the name, this is the team of the season a la the All Australian. This award combines on-field performance with posting so a general guide is an average of less than 20 match thread posts per week, means you won't get selected. Each team nominates up to five of their players for selection.

The sim was pretty tough on us individual stat-wise this season, so we nominated the following players:​

• GWS Goose, ​
• Barrybran and,​
• Chat Pile.​

Alas, sadly none made the team, however kudos on your seasons nonetheless.

Mobbs Medal:
The Mobbs Medal is awarded to the best and most consistent player as judged by the Sim. Each game, the sim randomly generates text commentary, stats as well as the best 3 players for each game. These votes are collected by the Simmers and sent privately to the Admin to be recorded.

The following people all polled votes:​

• GWS Goose, 15 votes (equal seventh).​
• Jeremias and cats_09, 5 votes.​
• Chat Pile, 3 votes.​
• Mop, bone2468, saintkildaman, 2 votes.​
• beez, rye and Falconista, 1 vote. ​

EKA:
The EKA is awarded to the best rookie poster as decided by each club who vote 3-2-1 on who they think have been the best three rookies of the season (excluding their own).

In one of the best, deepest and most dynamic set of rookies for 5+ seasons, it was tough to get a look in. However two of our rookies attracted votes:​

• cats_09: 2 votes,​
• nobbyiscool: 1 vote. ​

SFACA MVP:
The recently renamed award that is purposed to reward those who play in less fancy positions that are not necessarily rich with statistics. That means the following positions will be eligible: BP, FB, HBF, CHB, HFF, CHF, FP and INT.

This award was revised somewhat this season and league admin Kennedy Parker put the call out for club nominations. The obvious choice for someone who dominated a non-glamour position was rye with their nomination below. The award was won by okeydoke7 but I'm claiming that rye came second. Fantastic season rye!

"For the SFACA, Gumbies nominate rye. They have dominated in the forward pocket position- #1 for goals, #2 DT, highest goal tally in individual match (across all forward pockets in the league this season), averages 2 goals per game and responsible for 13.66% of the Gumbies' points for.

At the end of the home and away season, rye sat second on our S36 goalkickers list just two goals behind someone who has been named at full forward six times and ahead of someone named at full forward eight times. They are active though not a huge poster (hence no all-SFA nom), but have absolutely owned a less glamourous position which is the essence of this award."

Frankston Rover:
The Frankston Rover Award is the Administrator's Choice Award given to the player or players in the league who have given invaluable service across the season to help the smooth functioning of the league and enhancing the experience of all in the league through effort, commitment and service.

Somehow....in a massive surprise to me still...yours truly shared this award with managatang for season 36.

Sunday evening: the Grand Final! How superb would it be to add 18 new Gumbies premiership players to join StFly and Jeremias?
The biggest individual award of them all, the beez medal is awarded next Friday evening (15/12/2023).

Friday evening is the awarding of the beez medal/trophy which is a very sought after league award recognising the "best contributor" to the league this season. Good evening you great and glorious Gumbies, welcome to our Catman Medal presentation. Tonight, let's have some fun and award the following awards:

Ninty2Winty (best forward)

The voting system for the Catman is the same as last season. Each round, there are five votes up for grabs on SIM/playing performance (5-4-3-2-1) with the three highest dreamteam performers guaranteed a vote and two 'captain's choice' picks. In addition there are votes for match thread participation- one vote for 1-4 posts, two votes for 5-14 posts and three votes for 15+ posts. Both the sim and posting votes are tallied with the player with the highest total of votes the winner.
