Would it not have made more sense for the new clubs to only play 16 games in their first 2 years in the competition? Play each team once and play in the local comp for the other weeks. It would have made the draw a lot more fair IMO. In a season where the difference between 7th and 12th is only 1 win...Just a thought.

I can see where you are coming from but there is way too many holes to fill with the idea of playing local teams at the end of the season. What AFL team would be willing to let their players play on sub standard local grounds? What local leagues would be willing to put an AFL team in so late in the season? How would the members of GWS and GC feel about that?

I feel this situation where GWS and GC could have been avoided if they weren't being so rushy bringing the new teams in. Instead of having only 1 year together before joining the AFL, why didn't they spend a bit more time breeding these clubs a little more? They would still surely get smashed by a few teams but both their starts haven't been too flash really.

In the end, within a couple of years both these teams will be competing in the 8 and these couple of seasons will have been forgotten about.
