Socceroos International Friendlies Australia V New Zealand

Entertaining enough being a game between pretty equal sides but nothing shown tonight is comforting come the world cup. Luckily the commentators reckon Australia has good depth in the central striker role so that should fix things.

The commentators talk about all our "options" at number 9, being Maclaren, Duke, Taggart. Unfortunately they're all s**t, none of them would cause any worry or concern at all for opposition at international level.
They are dire.

It actually angers me to hear them talk so optimistically about all our attacking depth, like a bunch of snake-oil salesmen. Do they think we can't tell the difference between quality and shite?

Sounds like there will be a bigger crowd in NZ. Terrible by Queensland.

Remember when the WC “farewell” game was a packed crowd of over 80k what happened?!

Imagine if this shitty team were hosting the tournament… just wasted years with Arnold.

Defence seems to be our main issue. Prone to terrible turnovers and get easily beaten too often.

It's scary to think what France and Denmark will do to us, but let's face it it was a good effort just to make it.
It's easy to say the above watching us atm but it's arguable we're actually playing better now than we were leading in to the last World Cup where we were competitive against France and drew with Denmark. That's not to say we're playing well now we were just utterly awful before the 2018 World Cup too.

We were playing horribly at the back end of Ange's stint where we had the facade of playing possession football but realistically our only attacking threat was pinging balls somewhere in the vicinity of Cahill and he would make goals out of nowhere.

Then once Ange abandoned the team we got absolutely pummelled by Norway in a friendly under Bert and flattered to deceive in the rest of the warm ups. Then we turn up in the World Cup and not that you could say we were good but neither France nor Denmark embarrassed us by any stretch.

You may be right, I think our attack looks a bit better now. It would really help to get Souttar back to sure up the defence.

Never seen this Cummings guy play but expecting more of the same.

Our strikers wouldn't want to play as a 9 with our tactics. Basically our wingers are playing as the wide men, to cut in with the ball. And even when they were ready for the early cross, it never came.

Really it's a False 9 for this formation to play up the field and draw up on the defenders, not a poacher. None of that crop can thrive in that role.

No wonder Taggert barely touched the ball in 60 mins.

Maybe, but we haven't had a go to goal scorer since Cahill, and it's why I have no faith in this outfit right now. Who is our relative match winner?

This has been a reality for a while. The only guy I have faith in playing as a false 9 is Rogic.

As average as we were on Thursday night, the struggles are pretty familiar across the globe.

Denmark lost to Croatia, Hungary beat Germany, England lost to Italy.

We'll be prepared for the ground conditions in Qatar after it being our 2nd home.

I'd have like to mix and match the youth/fringe players with the actual squad players over the 2 games rather than wholesale changes.

Hungary beat Germany but Hungary also topped the group. They aren't pushovers like everyone seems to think they are.

Yeah the logic of sending everyone home when we have one friendly before the World Cup and we aren’t flying is bizarre.

Will probably put in as disjointed a performance this afternoon and Arnie will use that as a reason to stick with the old guard.

When is Soutter back? We desperately need him to get some games in before the World Cup.
