Showcasing their jerseys for the new FNRL Vodafone Super Six rugby league competition
THE Super Six Rugby League competition kicks off today with the idea to assist the less privileged in society.
Every dollar out of each ticket sold from the competition will go towards the charitable organisations namely the Treasure Home in Ba, Dilkusha Home in Nausori and the children of Vatukoula.
The idea is the initiative of the Super Six Rugby League sponsor Vodafone and the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) board.
Vodafone chief marketing officer Avanthi Senaratne said they were saddened with the plight and suffering of the people of Vatukoula and urged rugby league fans to turn up in numbers during the matches.
The teams competing are Jetset Nadi, Lautoka Warriors, Nasinu Tigers, Suva Bluez, Fiji Saints and Tailevu Bulls.
Competition will be held over six weeks with the first matches kicking off today at the Vodafone Prince Charles Park between the Jetset Nadi and the Warriors and at the Post Fiji Stadium between the Tigers and the Bluez.
FNRL official Tomi Finau said the competition was another step up from the Vodafone Cup which had 13 teams from the West and East confederations.
Members of the Fiji Bati squad to the South Pacific Games will be allowed to participate for their respective teams until they near the time of their departure, Finau said.
The competition will be of a higher level and we hope to see an improvement from the players.
The winner of the competition, to be decided on August 31, will receive the Dr Kemueli Musunamasi Trophy and medals.
