"Fyfe capped off a truly tremendous year by winning the prestigious Players’ Award, which is given to the player who was deemed to have best reflected the values set by the playing group at the start of the season."
"I’m an established player. I feel like I can have a real impact and say in the direction of this footy club. Leadership is something I aspire to at this footy club". (Nathan Fyfe, Doig Medal, 2014).
Without knowing the ins and outs and internal politics my personal opinion is that Fyfe should be made captain for 2015 and beyond. Let Pav play down at FF and enjoy the last year(s) of his career without the burden of leadership.
Of course it may be that Pav thrives on leading, he certainly seems to and that he has earned the right to retire from the captaincy when he thinks its the right time. If that is the case then I would like to see Fyfe as VC or at the very least move into the leadership group this year. Fyfe is head and shoulders above the rest as a player, citizen, role model, trainer, work ethic, whatever you like really.
