Been trying to think of star players of recent times that have been cut off by their original teams (the teams they made their names at), only to go elsewhere for one last season in new colours.

Some have done not too bad, others have bombed badly and vanished without a trace.

Names that jump to mind are -

Doug Hawkins (at the Roys)
Mick McGuane (Blues)
Nicky Winmar (Dogs)
Damien Monkhorst (Saints)
Allen Jakovich (Dogs)
Nick Daffy (Swans)
Adrian McAdam (Pies)

Anyone else you guys can think of? - I'm probably forgetting really obvious ones.

Who would have had the best "one off" season at a club to end their career?

Max Richardson actually played 2 years for the Roys, but Len Thompson played his last year of footy for us.

John Rantall (Sth, Nth, Sth), Mark Dwyer (Stk), Gavin Excell (Geel), Doug Hawkins (Foots), Greg Parke (Melb), Michael Roberts (Stk, Rich), Allan Sidebottom (Stk), Keiran Sporn (Ess) and last but not least Grant "Cornflakes" Thomas (Stk, Nth) ended their footy careers with one last hurrah at the Roys.

Laurie Sandilands - Collingwood.
Sam Kekovich - Collingwood.

Not sure, but I think that Larry Donoghue also finished up at Fitzroy but didn't get a senior game.

Correct.

He was there from memory in 1979/80, and basically just played full forward for our ressies.

I think we ended up getting Mark Scott from St Kilda to be our reserves full forward after that.

Yep

Not really in line with the thread of finishing their career but one of seasons that went badly are:

Terry Wallace Rich
Justin Murphy Geelong (was he there only one year?)

Gordon Fode- Hawthorn
Kingsley Hunter - Hawthorn
Barry Young - Hawthorn
Todd Ridley - Hawthorn
Leon Higgins - Hawthorn
Ricky Nixon - Hawthorn
Andrew Demetriou - Hawthorn
Matthew Dent - Hawthorn

Yes, we've had a few. :(

not entirely sure if these guys lasted one year or more but,

Alex Jesalanko - stk
Warick Capper - bris
Steven O'riely - carl
