Kane Lucas - Rising Star Favorite

According to sportsbet.com.au, Lucas is 7.50 outright market leader.

Of course the Rising Star market is very speculative right now, and we haven't seen any of the new draftees and rookies yet, but Lucas does seem to be the most 'likely' type out of the 2nd/3rd year players etc.

Would assume barring injuries, he's a certain starter against Richmond in rnd 1.

Doesn't seem like a very strong field this season though considering the 'weak' draft we just had.

We are doing a poll on who will become the best AFL player this year, contribute with your vote and thoughts!

Weekly award is stupid. The award as a whole is a good one imo.
I agree with this, it should be a similar system to any rookie of the year award in sport, where a short list of 5-7 players are selected towards the end of a season, and then a panel of experts selects them in order.

Really, all the weekly Rising Star nominations are, and ever have been is a promotional tool for the title sponsor.

Lachie Neale from Freo. Drafted very late in the draft presumably due to his height 177cm. Played 7 rounds of SANFL and got 40 possessions in the under 18 final and won the medal for best afield.

Has had an impressive preseason and played through the midfield at our intraclub picking the ball up at will. Most likely of our draftee's to debut early.

1 or 2 good preseason games from shortening his odds greatly. Get on now.

..he's a good chance, may not regularly crack the midfield brigade but could mix it up along a wing or either half back/fwd flank.. ..but he seriously just scrapes into being eligible, with 10 games and turning 21 During the season..

..certainly he [and others in similar situation] have a distinct advantage..

I reckon Christian Howard (dogs) is worth a look at $101, he should get plenty of games.
Weagles are talking Koby Stevens up this year, he has talent but hasn't had the opportunity previously - worth a sneaky @ $41. Cats are talking up Smedts but $17 is a bit too short given how strong they are across the running positions, very hard to hold down a spot.

Wouldn't touch the tall blokes with a ten foot pole, just so much more that can go wrong.

Lucas far too short IMHO, how is he *that* far ahead of Stevens? Both have struggled to crack into similarly strong midfields the last 2 years.

supposedly carved it up in the intra club game, is a 3rd year player who is a high draft pick and played good footy in his first year and has had a full preseason. Is rightfully favorite in my opinion. The sort of player who will get under the guard once the opposition try and cover, judd, murphy, gibbs, scotland, simpson carrazzo etc.

Or disadvantage when it comes to voting. Think of the season Luke Shuey had, and he didn't win it. You'd think that Lucas would have to top Shuey's season in order to win it.

I think Jason Tutt might be ready to explode, and has fairly favourable odds too...

Should get a lot of gametime with the Dogs appearing to be semi-rebuilding.

Luke Brown for the Crows is great value at $67. Has been said by the club he is likely to get a lot of game time. Will play across half back and through the middle..... kind of like Heppell.

Is Blease fully fit, full pre-season? Reasonably big things expected IIRC.

Full preseason, however he seems to struggle with fitness a little.

Could explode this season, but could as easily go the other way
