Laura Kane - Does Not Impress Me At All !!

If you can't understand hyperbole I can't help you

Just looks at United Airlines with their DEI pilot principles. Horrifying stuff

Do you really think they're hiring people with severe intellectual disabilities as Aircraft Engineers and pilots?

And dude, the New York Post?? Really?

A 0.6% Rise over two weeks (which was less than the movement in the ASX 200 at the same time) was on the back of their Aus Day Merch Announcement?

Maybe they should have been spending more time on material business imperatives and less time on the Aus Day Merch type decisions, they may have been better off now...
Also worth noting, to support my view that 'woke' is almost about business and nothing else - the Aus Day merch doesn't sell. That was the main driver in deciding not to continue to bother selling it.

Managing director of Wesfarmers’ Kmart Group Ian Bailey told news.com.au that the demand for Australia Day products was so low the retailer wouldn’t bring the themed merchandise back even if the date was changed from January 26.

He said in terms of customer pushback on the company’s decision, there has been “nothing”.

“It was never a big promotional day where we saw a surge in sales,” Bailey said

First article I could find with a lazy google, the info is out there if you go onto the airlines websites.

Maybe not severe disabilities as pilots but definitely filling quotas based on gender and race.

How about just hire the absolute best people for the jobs who have peoples actual lives in their hands?

?

If you'd bothered to actually read the info on the airlines' websites instead of skimming through an article in the New York Post - you wouldn't have bothered posting it.

The article is completely and utterly misleading.

Question...

Let's say you have a talent pool of (for arugments sake) 100 pilots, and only the top 10% of that pool is elite. The next 50% are really good. The last 40% are rubbish. They're qualified - but they're not good pilots.

Then imagine that you can increase that talent pool by encouraging women to become pilots. You support them through their training. You sponsor them. You include them so more women choose becoming a pilot as their chosen career.

As a result of this, over time you find yourself with access to a talent pool of 200 pilots. Only 10% are elite still - but you now have 20 of them, instead of only 10. Plus, you also have access to an extra 50 very good, qualified pilots than you did before.

Do you not think that that makes plane travel safer? Do you not think that is simply smart business more than anything else?

Increase the talent pool of pilots so all will benefit? Sounds kind of familiar, almost like the same specious argument that is used to justify the northern academies.

Anyway, seems to be a long way away from the thread, which is about one person, not a training academy or affirmative action

The discussion was about Keane saying she wanted more diversity in umpiring.

We are 7-weeks into the 2024 AFL and the adminstration have gone from bad to worse.

Umpiring - embarrassingly bad

Tribunal - unfathomable & more inconsistent than ever

Fixturing - all over the place

FTA TV coverage - fake, over-produced & unlistenable

Lip Service - on overdrive

This new group of leaders (Dillon, Kane et al) are being paid exorbitant salaries but deleivering less than the checkout lady at Coles.

They should be embarassed beyond comprehension regarding the way they are running the game into the ground but whilst the snouts are in the trough, they will keep twisting words & evading serious scrutiny but always with a smile on their face.

If only there was something like a Royal Commission that could look into this rubbish closely.

Better still, make me CEO (and for half the money Dillon is getting) and it will all be fixed rather quickly.

No, she said they "need" more female umpires. Not they "want" or "hope", the word she used was "need" which is strange. She clearly doesn't mince words so who is holding the gun to her head for it to be a "need"?

The AFL's goal is to have the sport played by males and females in equal numbers by 2030.

They're going to need a lot more girls and women taking up umpiring in order to accommodate such an increase in participation. Wouldn't really be fair to put that responsibility solely on the guys, would it.

And btw having visible examples of female umpires will help drive that much needed increase.
