Gaming Madden 10

Hi guys,

There has been a little talk about Madden 10 around the traps, but no thread I have found all about the game. If a new thread wasn't warranted, feel free to let it fall away.

I am a massive ESPN NFL 2K5 (http://au.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/espnnflfootball2005/index.html) fan having played that 100 times more than any other game on my PS2.

I was given a Wii as a gift last year and so joined the "next gen" console fraternity and got a copy of Madden 09 for Wii. I am not sure how others found it, but overall I was disappointed compared to the 2K5 series. Realism was a major problem for the Wii title as were crowd graphics and the things like making it too kid like.

Madden 10 does seem to have some nice reasons to buy it this year. Particularly on the Wii, even though they are dropping realism further, I am coming to grips with the fact that this is where game titles are going for the Wii and, if done well, can be really great. It'd be wonderful if family and friends could easily jump into the game. Breaking away from the other consoles further is probably the right move for Madden 10.

Still, Madden 10 is coming out for PS2 and I have to wonder:

a) Would I get a better experience of Madden 10 on PS2 than Wii (assuming it is a PS3 version minus hi-def graphics)?
b) Is my existing NFL 2K5 a better American Football game than Madden 10 will be (hey, it is awesome)?
c) Whether I'd just buy it for for my iPod Touch? I have been hankering for a good American Football game every since I got it.

Anyway, I have put a poll in asking which platform you intend to buy Madden 10 for - if any.

Any discussion points anyone would like to raise?

Honestly don't give a s**t about the game aslong as the curse is ended is only strikes down Polamalu.

Will buy on 360 though.

2k5 is easily the best NFL game i have played. That's game presentation has killed anything else i have seen on the PS2. Was addicted to that game for a while

Got Madden 09 for the Wii, while the control system is decent, realism can still be a major problem with Madden. Will be getting Madden 10 on PS3, hoping it lives up to the good expectations along with the online franchise mode

2k5 was awesome. The player animations/dynamics are so much more fluid than Madden has ever been.

I still have All Pro Football (made by the same company) on PS3 that I play.

Unless there is a massive PS3 price drop along with the release of Madden 10 (not ridiculous?: http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/09/sony-timing-its-ps3-price-cut-to-roll-with-madden-homework/), I'll have to decide whether to buy Madden 10 for the Wii, PS2 or at all.

I was playing Madden 09 for the Wii this morning on the (fairly new) 42" plasma. It is just not that exciting when I see shots of Madden 10 on PS3 . In fact, Madden 10 on Wii seems to looks way better than what Madden 09 does.

There is the looks of Madden 09 on the Wii, and then there are what seem to be bugs. Had a situation where I was in a punt return formation, but for some reason my players regrouped and old-mate the punt returner runs up to the line of scrimmage. I grab the guy that I am selected as but he is some slow fat bastard and so, after the punt, the opposition recover the punt on their five yard line. *sigh*.

I actually don't mind the PS2 control system (under 2k5 at least). You'd think the Wii controller would make it more realistic, but I don't find that. Realism (from a throwing a ball situation) is about the same.

I'll have to see what the reviewers say about the game on an old PS2 system (but which will strive to be somewhat similar to the PS3 minus a heaps of stuff) vs the radical departure from the PS3/XBox versions you get when you go the Wii version. Gamespot will be my guide. Look, I'll probably go Madden 10 and thus begin the annual upgrade cycle that Madden fans go through. When I got NFL 2k5, I played it for years without worrying about upgrading .

Hmmm. The Madden 10 Wii Showdown mode could be a plus for the Madden 10 for Wii: http://www.operationsports.com/videoview.php?id=439.

I think the game changers would be interesting - perhaps offset the fact the game looks so unrealistic (some of the XBOX/PS3 videos just look amazing).

Finally, Madden 10 gets a chain gang and more TV-like presentation bits (just like 2k5 did):

Awesome and pretty much the reason IMO that Madden 10 will be a must have over Madden 09 (but will Wii get this goodness?).

I'd be in on that for sure. My preferences in order would be HB, SS, DE or TE

Can't wait til this comes out. I had the freezing problem with Madden 09 for a fair while then it stopped all of a sudden.t I lost interest due to Fallout 3.

According to this, XBOX 360 and PS3 owners will be able to access a free demo on July 30 from the respective console's stores.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who is able to could play the demo and post their thoughts on here.

I have no interest in buying Madden 10 for Wii, and it's the only current generation console I have and ever intend on having.

Last season I dusted off the PS2 to play NFL 2K5 and I'm likely to do it again this season.

There will be the option of Madden 10 for PS2. But I'd assume it will almost be an afterthought compared to PS3 or Wii.

It says on that page you linked that the demo of madden 10 is available for download!
I'll have to log in to both PS3/Xbox and see if its there, then download it, then play it and cream my panties, then brag about it in this thread.

Well, i downloaded the demo of Madden 10 last night (900mbs), also a couple other demos, like COD:World at War, and a couple others. All 700+ mbs. Took forever. Havent played any of them yet, just havent had the chance today, and i feel a bit lazy too.

But you can download them thru the USA Playstation store, if you set up a bogus US account on your ps3.

I got around to it. It's finally a product worth buying. It reminds me very much of the 2K5 game. Finally they've copied that look and feel and player animations arent like bowling balls hitting each other. Much more fluid, players can drag out a couple extra yards in a tackle, etc.

The overall presentation is like a real game on TV.

Must-buy.

Indeed! Finally they copied 2k5 is why. Including the presentation, but took it up a few extra levels on top of that, more stunning and HD tho.

2k5 was ahead of its time. 5 years later finally Madden embraced the superior product and will only make Madden sell even more.
