Norm Smith Medallist
Player#3
Aaron Henneman: 193cms 93kgs
Strengths:
Fast, his 2.86 20m sprint time at the draft camp is one of the quickest recorded. Has a huge vertical leap which he has used several times to take a hanger or on the rare occasion win a hit out. Has developed his upper body to the point where he can hold his own in a push and shove.
Weaknesses:
Where do we start? Well firstly Aaron’s disposal is very ordinary. Picks out the opposition more times than not by foot. Has no football brain whatsoever will go for a gallop down the ground and literally forget what to do with the footy. Has no idea how to play in the forward line. On the occasions he played in the forward line in 2003 he regularly got in Lloyd’s way. As for being a ruckman he is worse. Sheeds has this fetish for the small mobile ruckman. Henno was smashed in the ruck last year. His ruck work against Fraser against Collingwood in rnd 22 might have cost us the match.
Prediction for 2004:
This is a big year for Aaron. He needs to find a position and make it his own. Unfortunately for Aaron Scotty has made centre half back his own. Fletch is a lock for full back. Allan seems to have the running for the second ruckman spot in the side so that spot if Allan stays fit is out of Henno’s reach(And thank god for that.). So the spot he will most likely be competing for is the third tall back man spot vacated by Danny Jacobs. Sam Hunt and Henneman are the front runners for this spot. Both are tremendous athletes. But the thing that will give Hunt the edge over Henno is his skill level and ability to think through the game better than Henno. I think Aaron may well spend the majority of the year stopping the VFL’s best forwards for Bendigo.
