Yeah I really like Goddard down back. I'd probably have him, from a purely defensive point of view, as the safest bet and highest level talent.

I'd probably rate it from a low risk defensively speaking POV

1. Goddard
2. McDonald
3. Durdin
4. Lever/Marchbank/Ramsay

As overall packages I'd be going

1. Lever
2. Durdin
3. Goddard
4. McDonald
5. Marchbank
6. Ramsay

though.

I think Oscar McDonald will bolt. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 25-30.
Talking to a friend that follows the Rebels closely in Ballarat this morning and he tells me Oscar McDonald was upgraded from the Victorian State combine to the main NAB AFL National Draft Combine so it seems there must be real interest from quite a few clubs one would think. He said there was an article on the upgrades on the AFL site a couple of weeks ago also so a search verified it. Also upgraded were Bailey Dale, Toby McLean and Teia Miles.

Looks like if we are interested in Oscar it may require our 2nd round pick to get him now??

Do you know when this takes place, no mention of the dates in the article??

WEST Australian pair Jarrod Garlett and Clem Smith head the group of small forwards, midfielders and defenders invited to the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Garlett has had an impressive season for South Fremantle in the WAFL and is in contention as a first-round selection at November's draft.

A rebounding, attacking defender, Smith made the under-18 All Australian team last season as a 17-year-old but has struggled for the same consistency in 2014.

Among the group of 11 smaller players invited to the four-day testing at Etihad Stadium were two upgraded prospects, Teia Miles and Toby McLean.

The pair was invited to the Victorian state combine last month but have been upgraded to the national list after strong form in the TAC Cup in recent weeks.

Miles is the son of Geoff, who played 122 matches for Collingwood, West Coast and Geelong from 1982-92, but not enough for any club to qualify as a father-son pick.

Tall defender Oscar McDonald and medium forward Bailey Dale have also received upgrades to the national list this week.

Who is the best outside midfielder in the draft? Weller certainly looks the type of player we need.

Skippos
What's your thoughts on a mature age tall forword North Adelaide unleashed in the last two rounds. Can play both ends of the ground and awesome skills with a penetrating kick.

Is there scope to bring a talent in to the club by trade for a first pick downgrade .... And then use the resultant first pick to get the same person who we would have drafted at nine/ten ?

I hope we don't get pick 2 and 3 at the end of this trade period cos that would mean we traded Danger :(
Laverde, Weller or Goddard for our first I would hope.
I don't think that Lever would be available at our pick as he has now gone up the order in phantom draft even up to as high as number 3.
C'mon guys let's keep posting about who we should pick with pick 9.

I wouldn't be giving up pick 9 for Goddard, Pick 9 or 10 should be used on the very best player available to us regardless of the position they play and I'm very doubtful he is that.

Who do you think would be best available?

My "dream" picks at this stage would be Round 1. Liam Duggan, Round 2. Connor Menadue Round 3. Oscar McDonald.

My gut feel is we'll use our 1st on a speedy outside mid though unless Durdin is still there at our pick, Duggan has good speed but our recruiters may prefer Pickett or even Menadue who have explosive speed.

I haven't heard much about Menadue can you give me a rundown on him?
Laverde is speedy, 189cm, versatile which is just what we need.
And yea I probably would use a pick on a speedy outside mid which are usually a safer pick.
Oscar McDonald will be a good choice I reckon.

The afl draft combine will be good this week to see who are the quickest.
At this stage I reckon Laverde, Pickett, Garlett would be the front runners for that.

The reason I'm not talking about pick 9 yet, and I assume many others feel the same way, is that in the past I've gotten attached to certain players who I think will be available at our pick, only to see that pick move elsewhere during trade week. Let's put this thread on ice until after trade week is finished so we know the state of play.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Duggun is an ex-school mate of Crouch's:
Matt Crouch, Adelaide

Who was your pick for the Rising Star award?
"I reckon Lewy Taylor. He's had a consistent year. But it's close between him and Marcus Bontempelli."
Who is your tip for next year's Rising Star?
"Liam Duggan, from the Western Jets. I went to school with him and he's a pretty good player. He'll go all right."

Haha, yeah, I was aware of that but seriously this kid will be a gun, can really play and I'm hoping our recruiters are into him big time, be an added bonus that he already has mates on the list.

AFL form guide has him only at 18th, so should be there at 9 (or 10). http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-08-15/phantom-draft-form-guide

Nice write up from Bound for Glory:
"It would be remiss to just characterise Duggan as a running half back. He has a disguised weapon that comes in the form of his left boot, something that is rare for many players. He is the type that can not only run, but boot the ball over 60 metres and hit a target. Without meaning to get too stuck into cliche’s, he’s shoot the wings off a fly such is his accuracy." http://boundforglorynews.com/2014-player-profile-liam-duggan/

Good judge is our Matty, I reckon he'll be gone well before pick 18 personally, surely a booming accurate left footer with decent skills won't drop that far. Think Simon Goodwin.

I reckon Menadue will give them a run for their money too!

He is greased lightning!
