even Adelaide where SACA members get seats
This is untrue.
The only way SACA Members get seats at AO for AFL matches is in one of two corporate rooms which cost the Member >$100 per person for a single match. These rooms are unavailable even to SACA Members when required by the AFL, eg the opening match.
SACA Members get no discount, early access or access to seating areas. Apart from the two corporate rooms if they wish to attend an AFL match they need to buy a ticket, at full price, at the same time as anyone else.

No there wont. The Gabba tests have averaged 10000 people a day for the last 2 non-Ashes tests.
Well I can tell you this, they will move before they redevelop or improve the ground. The high rise apartment plan was a total debacle, and the money offered for that land will be huge and more than an adequate to relocate. And they don't give two shits about members, * me they have elderly people lining up in severe heat and collapsing in line ffsake.

I don't think you understand why people who actually care about cricket don't want the WACA to go.
I totally understand, I love the ground and it is totally unique as are all other grounds in Australia. Fact of the matter is, you can't keep running a ground that only accommodates one major sport per year that needs a major overhaul and no one is willing to prop up the cash.

The WAFC may be willing to if they can use it for the WAFL in winter. Do it up and have it as the joint HQ of cricket and football in the state.

"Do it up" ?

I think the level of investment required here is orders of magnitude out. Just the demolition costs of the derelict stands would bankrupt the WAFC & WACA combined. The only hope of actual improvements would be with government money and ... err, good luck with that.

State cricket and WAFL crowds would be better suited at Bassendean oval or a dozen inner suburban parks that could be commandeered and redeveloped to ~10k seats. Less head works to get construction started, and the WACA could be sold for a mint to pay for it all.

Infact i can think of one ideal park... out on the Burswood peninsula. ;-]

Subiaco Oval is worth a lot of money.

Subiaco Oval is worth a lot of money.

Indeed, but i dont think the WAFC would be interested in investing in a cricket venue. They already have Leederville oval that suits any WAFL crowd, and the new stadium for anything larger.

I have no doubt that they will redevelop Subiaco Oval into apartments, logic dictates that, but none of that windfall will find its way to the WACA. Whats their interest in that?

So the number of SACA members who get access to the footy is limited poster .... one is one too many.

That's what happens when you're a member of an organisation that is part of the administration of the stadium. SANFL gets similar at AO during summer. It's corporate rooms, not seats in stands. Thus they either go to SACA Members or to sponsors or similar. No run-of-the-mill sports fan loses their seat.

The only way you can get access to Adelaide Oval in the Western stand all year round is to buy an Adelaide Oval Footy Membership $370.00 (22 games) and a SACA membership $324.00 (I think), neither membership gets you into the ground outside the 6 month period.

Obviously assets such as Subi Oval and other stadiums are a big consideration in the considered council realignments. I can't recall if the City of Perth is making a grab for it like they are for the new stadium and casino, among other things.

Primarily though you have to consider that the WAFC still has a long (but peppercorn) lease on the ground. If the WAFC doesn't want Subi anymore after the new stadium is built then obviously its extremely unlikely a new tenant will be found and the council would be forced to sell-off the land as maintaining an empty stadium would obviously be prohibitive.

It would be quite a windfall for the City of Perth if they could acquire this portion of Subiaco during the realignments and flog it off.

But perhaps to answer your unasked question - the WAFC currently owns the tax-payer paid-for improvements to Subiaco Oval over the years. If they give up the lease then the City of Subiaco (or whatever council) will then inherit this. But it would be value-less - in fact a burden - if no AFL team is playing there.

The WAFC for all intents and purposes own Subi. There is plenty of precedent for large developments on leasehold land, half of New York is built on long leases and it doesnt stop them building 30 floor buildings and people buying and selling apartments with caveats.

Subiaco council wont be 'handed' the stadium even if the WAFC have zero interest in the place. They may become a joint venture partner (perhaps in exchange for a freehold) but in reality Subiaco council will be happy enough to just have a a few hundred more premium ratepayers.

...and to be free of all those evil 'football types' who park all over the verges.

this thread is rivalling COLA and Essendon PED for irrationality.

Cricket is dying - just let a few more fixing episodes pass by and it will be largely dead. move on and finish the footy stadium. And PS- Subi Council own Subi and would keep any money from its sale.

Like footy, 2nd tier comps no longer draw a crowd.
If 20/20 is not played between countries (its meaningless but good fun), BBL has life.
Tests? Love it, but do enough others.
Footy stadium yep, roll on:
