Will it rain tomorrow?

What's that mean?

Interesting to note that Agar, Zampa and Boyce have all been named in the Australia A squad.

If we assume that Doherty has been retired and Lyon isn't in contention, are these guys essentially playing off to be Australia's first-choice ODI spinner?

Interestingly, this bloke has had a go at picking the 2019 squad as well.

His squad:

Finch
Warner
Smith (c)
Ferguson
Maxwell
M. Marsh
Faulkner
Wade
Starc
Cummins
Hazlewood
--------------
Agar
Sandhu
Coulter-Nile
Maddinson

What do you think?
I think so, Brick, although the question is whether there's any inclination to pick a specialist spinner with the current balance of all-rounders.

I can see the appeal of backing Maxwell to do a containing job and then picking the three best quicks along with Faulkner and Marsh. They're all young enough to be there in 2019 so it's not like a re-jig will be forced upon the selectors by circumstances.

I think it will be very hard to ditch the balance of 3 quicks and 3 all-rounders, including Maxwell as the token spinner.

Full post also quoted so you can't do one of your quick edits.

Why does this thread exist?
I think Australia are in a unique position of having won the World Cup with a side that could try to defend it in four years without having undergone major upheaval.

That was the point I was making at the outset.

They can basically build a side around Smith, three all-rounders and three quicks and then try to fill the holes.

Mitch Marsh is up against it as moving up the order for Aus. He hasn't batted much above 5 for Warriors or Scorchers at any time. I hoped at one point he'd be a natural 3 for the one day team but he's hardly played any of that format for WA in the past couple of years.

Did the job very well over in Zimbabwe last year. Barely played a game for WA last season in any format so I wouldn't read much into that.

But he was only given 2 games there. Smith has three nailed down for the foreseeable future I'd say. 4 or 5 might be possible but he'd have to get past Maxwell and Bailey first. It's a possibility for him but not for a few years.
