Fixture Putting the fix in fixture

Giants fans can also attend the MCG.
Yep, but as it involves a flight or full day driving (day before) you dont get many. For Geelong fans, it is just an hour up the highway...and many Cats also live in Melbourne.

Tis why Melbourne based teams have lost advantage in comparison to Geelong.
Geelong vs Collingwood 87k was Geelong’s home game, they should have had majority of the crowd but probably didn’t with Collingwood having reserved seats at that game.
A neutral game, just like all the MCG BLOCKBUSTERS are.

The voice of affirmation comes from 90%+ home crowds.
majority were Essendon fans early in the year as it was Essendon’s home game. Essendon had all the reserve seating, Geelong had none.
Plenty of red and black at Cat Park tonight.
20k of em you reckon?
If Geelong played all their home games at Cat Park then they wouldn’t be as familiar with the MCG.
As I said, best of both worlds.

Essendon have an 8/8 split at Marvel and the G, but are known as a "co-tenant" of both grounds.

Geelong have a 9/6 split at KP and the G, yet Geelong fans try and make out the G is some foreign venue.
So what’s the issue? They play 9 at Cat Park and 2 at the G.
If you are Geelong there is no issue, they have the best FIXture in the game.

The thread was started by an SA wowser to sook about their away games, yet they have 11 games at AO with a proper advantage in 2023...that is the biggest FIXture advantage.

Next time we have a 15 year finals drought like Carlton and can no longer attract a crowd.

Why do Collingwood have to play interstate at all? They can attract a crowd so all their games should be at the mcg imo. Maximise revenue. The AFL only exists to make money so this seems the right thing to do 👍

A flight from Sydney is just as long as a drive from Geelong. Sydney to Melbourne is also the 6th busiest air route in the world, plenty of flights.

they are not neutral just because you keep saying they are neutral. Melbourne vs Bulldogs had a big crowd last year at the MCG round one, it was no neutral, it was a Melbourne home game.

talking percentages, Geelong didn’t have 95% of the crowd last night. Looked like of Essendon fans were at the game. Probably a neutral game last night.

That’s Essendon’s issue, not Geelong’s. Essendon signed on to play games at the Docklands venue in when it opened, play all their games at the Docklands venue, play Essendon v Geelong at Marvel.

Geelong only have that split because they scheduled 2 home games there and 4 away, like I said Essendon should play home games at marvel, Geelong home games at Kardinia.
If you are Geelong there is no issue, they have the best FIXture in the game.
Compared to Collingwood?

Collingwood play 14 games at the MCG this year compared to Geelong, Geelong get fixtured a home game against Collingwood at the MCG where Collingwood are the only club to get reserved seating for away games. Of course if you are Collingwood you have no issue with this, another set of fans Accomodating for you.

so are Geelong allowed to play finals in Geelong next year once the capacity is 40k; or will the AFL still apply the "best fit" 'rule'?
Let them have it if they really want it.

But they better be careful what they wish for. By the time all of the corporates, the finals ticket series holders, AFL members, the oppo members etc have been factored in, there'll be likely 50,000+ Geelong members not even close to getting tickets if they wanted them.

And it won't be the 90%+ home crowd advantage becoming their 19th man that we see in H&A - it'll be 60-40 at the very best. If they play Essendon there in a semi, it'll be 50-50.

I'd happily take a 50-50 split. Would sure beat a 30-70 (or 40-60 at best) split for our "home" MCG finals.

Marvel is 53k are we don't get home games there, so it should be no.

Adelaide in 2015 would have been a win for sure at Marvel. (should have been anyway to be fair, innaccurate)

GMHBA will be an 80,000 seater once the 30th renovation is completed.

It will look like this....except that Circus Maximus is a little wider than GMHBA
