SeanjGreat how do we get this implemented. Might be a fair bit of push back but at least it seems fair to all
Seanj
I will work on a points system over next couple days to put up for discussion and other suggestions perhaps we can get the leaugue to open a forum to discuss it ???
It should reduce the strain on volunteers community's and makes local footy more enjoyable
And push local product
Back soon
Let's hope other people in the league have a higher opinion of there clubs and the administration.No. Administratively it's a nightmare and simply doesn't work. The clubs in the league aren't strong enough to sustain it.
Pfffft a points system in the rdfl.Who yas kidding?How would a joint such as Lancefield Macedon Rockbank (them 3 just for starters) get a competetive side on the ground without recruiting large amounts of players?Whilst money is important so is a good smart strong committee.Players want to play at successfull clubs such as Hawks Cats Swans Bombers N Collingwood.In the Rdfl at the minute lots of good players want to play at Riddell Romsey Diggers And Sunbury.Whys that?Yes $$$ might b a reasonA but they must b well ran also as theyve all been consistently up there in recent times.Going back 10 -15 yrs ago not many good players wanted to be involved at Sunbury but obviously through lots of hard work by many people they are now a benchmark club.Too many people make too many excuses.Bit like saying the bloke up the road lives in a mansion and I live in a caravan its not fair.Well get over it work hard and get ya mansion or dont complain.All clubs have choices some just make better than others.Sorry bout the long post but I sayagain points system wont work
I am involved in one of these clubs and can tell you 80% of the team would not play if there is no pay agree a good structure is important to sustain this but in country areas it's tuff to maintain to much pressure on the community see many of these clubs have backers and gtee u that if heskeet had a footy team the backrs and the money would win flagsLast 10 years:
Diggers rest - 4 grand finals, strong club and people want to play for them
Romsey - 4 grand finals - 2 premierships, strong club and attract good players
Riddell - 7 grand finals - 5 premierships, strong club and again people want to play there
Sunbury - 2 grand finals - 1 flag and have turned into a powerhouse of the comp, and people want to play there.
I'm sure you'd be surprised if you were involved at these clubs what they actually spend compared to what is speculated!! That is just an easy cop out to say they buy flags! There's more ways to attract players to clubs than just $$$. Employment, coaching..... Not in any way saying they don't spend, but they are continuously strong because maybe they attract the right people, have a well run club which in turn attracts quality players.
As per usual good result you mouth off without knowing the facts which areHow many in the romsey 2011 are local
Cheers great work will need a couple of drinks to digest itThe player point system is used in country SA and WA.
Works something like this:
- The league has an allocation of let's say 195 points that they can distribute accordingly to each club (15 points per club as an average) some clubs would get more or less depending on the following factors:
1 Recent history of ladder position at the conclusion of minor round over a 3 year cycle.
2 Population of town
3 Geographical location from CBD
Player Values:
- 0 point player is a local or former junior of the club
- 3 point player recruited from another country league
- 4 point player recruited from WAFL, SANFL, VFL league level (seconds player is 3 points)
- 5 point player recruited straight from AFL (reduces 1 point every year from AFL until 3 points after 2 years from AFL)
- -1 point for playing an underage player (u18) (some clubs abuse this rule and play juniors of they are overcommitted with recruits)
Note: recruited players reduce a point every year they are at the club.
Example: So when Tuckey went to Diggers in 2012 he would have ented the RDFL as a 3 point player because it had been more than 2 years since he played AFL, WAFL or SANFL. He would have reduced -1 point for every year spent at Diggers, so his PPS value would only be worth 1 point for 2014.
The key is for clubs to retain their recruits, hence the points reduction each year.
Also get the former juniors or locals back to the club as they are worth 0 points.
For example how would the points be allocated in RDFL for each club to manage their list:
Riddell = 6 points
Diggers = 8 points
Sunbury, Romsey = 10 points
Macedon = 13 points
Rupo, Melton = 14 points
Lancefield, Broadford = 15points
Rockbank, Wallan = 16 points
Woodend = 18 points
Kilmore = 20 points
Results from the PPS:
Good clubs are rewarded for good list management, culture etc... By retaining players.
Clubs can get in the s**t if they have an exodus of players.
Rather than a club spending 100k on 10 players they will still spend 100k on 5 players.
Locals or juniors will start putting $$ on their head as they know 0 point value is a huge benefit to the club.
As a recruit reduces PPS value each year they know their market price to the club increases as they are only worth 0,1,2 points. So if the club needs to replace this recruit they will need to use a minimum of 3 points to replace.
The system can give an equilibrium to the competition, rather than the powerful clubs killing off the lesser clubs on a yearly basis.
No I haven't been drinking, this is how it works.
You are on the money , players play with the clubs they feel have some success and they won't have to go out and get flogged week in week out . If they can make some coin good luck to them .If that's the case regarding $$$ then maybe look at the people your club has recruited? It sounds good in theory but won't happen. In the mean time it's up to the lower ladder positioned clubs to work hard, set up junior program's, get out there and chase sponsorship etc.. And try and catch these other clubs. These clubs haven't bought flags, they've set up a quality foundations, got a good club and attracted good people and are reaping the benefits. It takes time to set these things up and have continued success!!
I am sure the other clubs you are talking about have fantastic sponsors who support there clubs in ways that are not always dollars .Perhaps if the other clubs change leaugues or go to the wall Kilmore broadford lancefield rockbank melton centrala woodend etc the other 6 can play each other
??????
Why is it all about $$$$$$
If we keep putting the $$$$ there it will always be taken
Love the idea of points system to equalise the comp
Smaller towns less buisness less sponsorship
And not all clubs have a big backer
Fourty four years ago we put a man on the moon but we can't get a point system to work??????Fellas not sure how many times I have said this over the years but a points system is not the answer. They do not work

Spotted some ex Lancefield premiership players in that list who left for bigger $. Also spotted ex Lancefield premiership players in this years Grand Final (Caton, Ruffell etc) who also left for better pay packets. Not having a go at any of them, but clubs in this league are very cannibalistic in the way stronger clubs pick off other clubs better players. Good luck to the players but the stronger clubs are causing over inflation of player wages.As
