Sharp to play on Oliver Hollands. He's become an important run n spread player for Carlton so Sharp could be tasked with limiting his influence.

Hoping Sharp can play a good game because he is on a hiding to nothing around here.
With the changes, I reckon we see Sharp on the wing alongside McCluggage who plays more outside/wing to facilitate Berry moving onto the ball to play on Cripps. I assume the plan for Sharp will be to play the defensive winger role that Wilmot has been playing. It's not a high possession role so he won't get huge numbers (Wilmot is only averaging 11 disposals/game), but it'll be an important role against the Carton wingers.
Wilmot moves back into defense to fill Rich's spot in the defensive 7. McKenna, Coleman and Wilmot gives us some decent run off half back.
Answerth to assume the Zorko role at HFF and pinch hit in the middle. The way our forward line is set up, we rely on Zorko and McCarthy for our defensive pressure, so Answerth should hopefully slot into that role defensively (understanding he's not anywhere near the attacking option Zorko is).

Going to the game tonight with my young son. Wish I had some confidence but unfortunately 90% of games I attended in Melbourne we lose so it's rarely enjoyable. Based on that, I expect this to be no different 
. Guess we should hope for the best and prepare for the worst? On another note, I could not get any Brisbane members seating literally 2 hrs after tickets were available. As a result we'll be sitting among all the blues fans this will get painful if we cop a belting... Still starting my head over the Sharp selection. I think I understand the reasoning but being omnipresent around the ball will not be enough from him. Getting enough touches to make a difference will remain to be seen... Go lions!

Saad will not be an issue - sure he once had a Cannon, had his time in the Sun, used to be able to kick Bombs but now he is just Blue.

I watched the replay of last year's game last night and Carlton just couldn't cope with Neale, Lyons and Matho being equal to them as ball hunters. Tonight we have Neale, Berry and Dunkley - a much improved trio. We can do it for four quarters and suspect we will. Lions to win baby!

Not at all.
I can only speak personally and just because I'm a bit bemused by his selection still hope he plays a blinder , makes himself a cult hero by bowling Cripps over and we unearth another player.
Fwiiw he and Answerth are competent enough to not make any difference to the outcome of tonight's game provided we at least halve the M/F battle in which case we win.
Overall we have more depth of talent than them and have more avenues to goal as long as we get the ball often enough.

Harry Sharp is obviously an endurance beast however I do agree with martinson in that straight line running on a track is a lot different to the stop start repeat efforts in footy, the physical aspect of the game makes it doubly hard.
From what I have seen Harry has yet to be able to transfer that elite endurance and use it to a decent level in footy, it would be fantastic if he could develop that and be our elite gut running winger like Ed Langdon.

Watching Sharp in the reserves this year I think he has made a bit of a leap forward to last year. He’s getting more of it and looking like an actual footballer this year rather than an athlete trying to be a footballer so I don’t think it’s a terrible selection. I’m just not sure he’d improved so much as to be selected over Prior. I guess we’ll see.
Yes I would of had Prior and a few others in front of Sharp... in saying that lets hope Harry has a blinder.
I can understand why Carlton have come into favouritism. Until we see consistent performances on the road against half decent opposition it’s pretty hard to trust this team that they will get it done. So far against two “stronger” teams away from home in Port and the Dogs we have failed the test for differing reasons.
With that said however, we should be winning this game. We are probably a year or two ahead of where Carlton inevitably want to end up. Like every game it’ll come down to the middle where I actually think we have improved this year. If we get it forward enough and cleanly enough we should have enough of a score in us to win the game. Conversely, if they can win it out of the middle and get it forward quickly to Charlie and McKay then we may have our own struggles.

Reflecting on selection - I think you get a game of you can competently play two roles. Matho is a one role player and is smashing it but can't be moved around. So not going to get games.
Maybe sharp is less than prior at one role, but has a much stronger second role.
I still think one role players have their users, but it's been a clear strategy for quite a while.

I believe Sharp falls in to the category of one role or bust.
He’s a winger. I haven’t seen any scope to play back, forward or inside.
Prior on the other hand can most definitely play wing, and he’s actually a better and more natural half back.
Interesting suggestion. I have wondered if we should be developing Sharp into a run with type. He difinately has the tank but doesn’t seem to be able to use it in an outside role. Whatever his role, I hope he goes ok tonight.

I've been over on the Carlton board. Have to say they are one of the better oppositions.
They think the loss of rich and zorko is a big boost for them, as is our poor away record.
Most predict/hoping for a win but think it will be close.

I think there are positions in the team which require versatility and others which don't. Rich's role doesn't require versatility. Zorko's does. I think there's plenty of versatility already in the team (eg both Bailey and Rayner could change their roles to replace Zorks, or we could find his midfield minutes elsewhere with Bez, Hughie etc) but fundamentally, we need someone who can play high half forward and someone who can cover midfield - I think ideally you find a like for like replacement (which minimises role change) but I suspect that doesn't yet exist on our list (at least, not to the level Zorks is capable of). So it looks like we've selected a specialist to play one role, which then has a knock on effect in terms of repurposing other players.
FWIW, I'd have picked Prior as my first choice to replace Rich and I'd have selected Prior ahead of Sharp as a winger. IMO, in those wing/half back roles, I think Prior is the next best option we have and I think he's now shown himself to clearly be AFL best 22 quality.
I can only think that Sharp is there because we think our side is lacking something that Sharp brings (eg running power) or because we want to make another change (eg Berry into the midfield or using Answerth as a defensive forward) and the two forced changes is an opportunity to try something new.

Hollands has been a heck of a player this year so far. Every time I've seen him I've been super impressed. Quick, works hard, decent skills and bloody tough for an 18 year old.
