No one in the history of the game has traded for picks, what a novel concept. Most of their side is still made up of first round picks, dunno how that is debatable.

You're right that the ridiculous number of early picks GWS received in its first 2 years has allowed them to trade some of the players they drafted then for early picks in later years, giving them an ongoing unfair advantage. But McCarthy isn't an example of this. He was drafted with pick 14 which GWS upgraded from pick 21 as part of the trade that got Polec from Brisbane to Port.

Not even Carlton's recruiters would * up multiple first round picks, all of those players outside of Lucas and Watson that you've listed are 2nd rounders and below, Garlett was off the rookie list. Maybe only Melbourne given their history would have farked it up with a dozen first rounders in each draft.
