A rainy day greeted the Furies and Demons for this intriguing encounter at the Hippodrome. The Demons looked set for Finals while the Furies had experienced problems getting wins.

The first quarter saw the Demons jump quickly from the blocks, booting 3 majors while the Furies were still tying their laces. Azarole, the veteran Yakker and imposing ruck, Hate snaffled the majors and stilled the noise from a parochial Furies crowd. Scythe94 dobbed a major to get the Furies moving. Aside from another goal from Yakker the Furies fought back and via goals to Pickitt and crrazywildhorse narrowed the deficit to 9 points at 1/4 time.

The second quarter was a "cracker", especially if you're from Arkansas, FN Qld or the Hippodrome. With banjos playing in the home crowd, the Furies played inspired Qooty to take a 12 point lead at half time. Honours in their five goal quarter were shared evenly by the Furies while the Demons two majors relied on individual effort.

Would the Premiership Quarter prove telling? Yes, it had its own story. Clearly fired up the Demons matched goal for goal with the Furies and fought hard. DemonJim was prominent for the visitors while Pickitt and James Colorado were offering real leadership. Point for point, precious goal for goal the two teams put on a fine display of wet weather Qooty.

The last Quarter was a classic with the result hanging in the balance.

Van_Dyke scored an early brilliant goal to get the Dees in front. The Dees were on top for a spell but we're dogged by inaccuracy. The dangerous Chronz pounced and put the Furies in front. Point by point The Furies edged to a tiny lead and then using all their experience rfctigerarmy' dobbed a huge goal. That signalled party time as Nixi slammed another major.

Glasses down as the home team ran out 18 point winners. In an even display they were well served by James Colorado who was an inspired tackling machine, Pickitt who was strong in the air, rfctigerarmy who battled hard in the Ruck and kicked two crucial goals. For the Demons none were better than Hate who had two goals to go with their 13 Hitouts and 22 disposals while the veterans Van_Dyke and Tarkyn_24 could hold their heads high.

Goals:

Fighting Furies:: Chronz 2, Pickitt 2, rfctigerarmy 2, Scythe94 2, crazywildhorse, kananooks, Moz, Nixi, tugga

Mount Buller Demons: Hate 2, Yakker 2, Azarole, Bluelegs, CrimsonViolet (aka Greenery), Cooney, DemonJim, Moginie, Van_Dyke

Two form teams with realistic ambitions for S.34 lined up at Abdu in what was deservedly MOTR. The weather was unseasonably warm, inviting a quality game.

In a frenetic start, the Gumbies had 4 goals on the Board before the Bombers knew it was Sunday. In an ominous portent, star full forward Barrybran had two, while Brick Loosener and GWS Goose also hit the scoreboard. Finally PetWussy got the locals on the Board. Big Baz booted another two for the term in a clinic. The Gumbies went off to gleefully chew their oranges, sporting a handy 32 point lead.

Could the Bombers respond in the second Quarter? Well yes they could, booting four but unfortunately for them the Gumbies clocked up five with Barrybran snagging another three to bring his half time tally to seven! The margin was a whopping 37 points.

The proud Bombers came out full of intent for the Premiership Quarter. Unfortunately so did the Gumbies who piled it on to take a big 55 point lead into the final change. Of course Barrybran scored again. More on that later.

The 4th Q commenced with the Bomber defenders desperate to shut down Baz's big day out and the team was grimly intent on restoring some credibility to the scoreboard. And that they did, restricting the big Gumbanian Full Forward to just the one casual goal. The final margin of 37 points while not a shellacking, represented a serious beating.

For the visitors Barrybran slotted 11 goals while miggs and GWS Goose had starring roles. For the well beaten Bombers, none worked harder than impressive recruit Sun Ra (25 disposals and 8 marks) Kickthething.(13 Hitouts and 24 disposals) and co-Caliph KohPhi (26 disposals).

Gumbies:

Now this is a Match we all looked forward to. Two seemingly Finals bound teams. Stars on every line and all to play for. The weather was warm favouring the locals whose home is always a bit humid and fuggy. Could a bunch of Academics from the cool halls of their campus adjust? The game also marked the 200th game of Qooty for BRAB.

The first quarter did not disappoint as one team, then the other threatened to dominate. Phoenix got away to a quick start. sey666, MP_ and thewizardmelon got the locals away to a fast start interspersed with a cracking goal from U2Tigers. After a mere 6 minutes Phoenix had opened a 13 point lead. The game see-sawed amid rising tension until Bonz cooly slotted a major. A further goal to Wickzki narrowed the gap. Both teams were throwing all but the kitchen sink at each other with Phoenix nosing a bit further ahead courtesy of a major from the effervescent Milera2Betts.

The second quarter brought more of the same thrilling high standard Qooty. Bonz got the early goal for the Old Boys and a major from MC Bad Genius and another from Bonz saw the Old Boys scoot to a 15 point lead. Itsmyshow and Chipmunk cranked the locals up with telling goals, with the wizardmelon adding a further to give Phoenix a narrow 2 point lead. A buzzer beater from AxialMat7 wrested the lead back to the Ophidians at the half.

Rather than wilting in the heat the OOBs skipper the giant Turbo slotted two goals immediately after half time giving his team a handy break. Not to be outdone Mrs Turbo snagged her first and the locals were in strife. Milera2Betts nabbed their second and with Porps dobbing one, the locals said 'enough is enough'. Goals were exchanged including two beauties from the mercurial Raskolnikov. The visitors held a narrow 5 point lead at the final break.

The last quarter was really something for sports fans. After a desperate opening, local hero Zoops slotted a great goal. The enigmatic Hoos grabbed one back for the OOBs and restored their lead. Play was getting violent and shady Porps monstered MC Bad Genius and dobbed a miracle goal.

Mrs Turbo and then big Turbo dobbed great goals.

OOBs look home and hosed until local cult figure sey666 scored a clever opportunist goal. The lead to the OOBs was just 5 points with a bit over a minute to play.

The bounce was critical and in a mad scramble BRAB snagged the sealer for the visitors in what was a great exhibition of Qooty.

For the victors none were better than Tigerturbulance who kicked 3, laid 8 tackles and had 16 disposals. He was ably supported by MC Bad Genius (25 disposals) and Elton John's Wig (23 disposals). For the vanquished, thewizardmelon was heroic in the Ruck with 10 Hitouts, 28 disposals and 3 goals. He found support from por_please_ya and Jack the Gardener.

Goals

Ophidian Old Boys: Bonz 3, Tigerturbulance 3, Mrs Turbo 2, AxialMat7, BRAB, Firekrakoer, Hoos, U2Tigers, Wickzki

It is now time to award the EKA Medal for the best rookie of Season 34. The EKA is an award where the committee representatives vote for the top 3 rookies based on posting contribution on a 3-2-1 basis.

This season the rookie class of Season 34 was small but had many strong personalities who have managed to cultivate unique identities and become prominent posters for their respective teams quickly.

Without further ado, here are the votes:

BloodySwan - Sin City Swamprats - 3 votes

kananooks * - Fighting Furies - 6 votes

The Foolback - Gumbies FFC - 7 votes

spudmaster - Coney Island Warriors - 8 votes

Over The Post - Ophidian Old Boys - 10 votes

DERRINALPHIL - Roys FFC - 11 votes: = 3rd

Sun Ra - Baghdad Bombers - 17 votes: 2nd

Mrs Turbo - Ophidian Old Boys - 22 votes: 1st

And the winner of the Season 34 EKA Medal for best rookie is Mrs Turbo of the Ophidian Old Boys! The wife of Old Boys captain Tigerturbulance and the star rookie of the SFA's newest club. Mrs Turbo pre-season was thought to just be a list clogger purely signed to get the Old Boys to the minimum list requirement.

If you asked some punters pre-season, they'd think that she would most likely be an inactive and have shorter odds of seeking a divorce than joining Turbo in embracing this lunacy. But Mrs Turbo wins the EKA Medal beating out competition from Sun Ra and both Turbos are now able to tell the doubters to STFU after she won on the back of consistent quality posts and even being involved in a very nicely produced match thread OP.

Well done Mrs T.

Conditions were warm for this Clash and it would prove testing for all Players.

The first quarter provided a wonderful example of tight unrelenting Qooty between the two teams. There were evenly matched contests with the Qooty pinging between the two half back lines.

Las Vegas veteran Test Tickle opened proceedings with a sharp goal. Roys' spearhead Zevon soon replied. Slick work between Bears evergreens Art Vandelay and JoshWoodenSpoon resulted in the Bears' second, providing some reward for their team's efforts. A goal to Cap at the midway point saw the Bears open a handy 14 point break.

Facing a real challenge the reigning Premiers knuckled down and fought back with a critical goal to Mike and another from Wosh. At 'Oranges' the Bears led by the smallest of margins.

The war of attrition continued in the opening phase of the second quarter. A great piece of team play saw the Bears get their 4th via the dangerous Matera92. A sharp snap from zackah evened the scoreline. A one person piece of brilliance by feared Roys enforcer, Allikat, gave the Roys the lead for the first time. Again a brilliant team effort led to a Bears goal from JoshWoodenSpoon.

The rest of the quarter was goal for goal with much individual brilliance but even better Team Qooty. Halftime saw heat affected and walking wounded stagger to the sheds for rehydration. The Bears had doubled their lead to a bare 2 points.

The Premiership quarter commenced with the Bears on top but shocking inaccuracy saw them fail to press the advantage. Another piece of brilliance by Cap did see the Bears skip out to a 7 point lead. The Roys Kabanna then swung into action and in a fierce display of Qooty turned the tables. Unanswered goals from Kabanna, tigs2010, Zevon and the dangerous Wosh saw the Roys enter the final break with a handy margin.

The Bears needed to start the last well and they did via a team lifting goal from Millky95. But the home side's hopes were quashed as the Roys put the foot down. Quick goals from zackah, DERRINAL PHIL and Kabanna asserted the Roys dominance. In truth it must be said the Bears fought the game out to the finish and the margin at the final bell did not reflect what was an even contest for much of the day.

For the winners Kabanna with 29 possies, 2 tackles and two goals was terrific and was well supported by DERRINAL PHIL in the Ruck and Allikat who was dominant in the air, laid two tackles and had 22 possessions. The Bears were well served by Millky95 who had 8 tackles to go with 20 possessions, Broken who lad 7 tackles and had 20 possessions and Test Tickle who had 26 possessions and two goals.

Goals:

Roys' FFC : Wosh 3, DERRINAL PHIL 2, Elmer_Judd 2, Kabanna 2, zackah 2, Zevon 2, Allikat, JackNah_8, Mike , tigs2010

This match pitted an in-form Royals against a Dragons outfit experiencing a rare tough season. How did it pan out? This match was also notable for it being the 500th time Pie 4 Life had graced the Qooty field.

For the Dragons the match began with great promise as scores were level. So as the first quarter began the contest was indeed close.

Royals crackerjack winger Kapow ! ! ! opened proceedings with a nifty goal but this was soon replied to by the Dragons' promising Braklet. In the lead up there was a crunching tackle on Spookism that had the home crowd gasping for the talisman of bad luck. Happily Spook was able to soldier on. A quick exchange of goals saw both mobs neck and neck midway through the quarter.

A couple of handy goals from Knifey Spoony and star forward Pie 4 Life had the Dragons open a handy lead. The Royals using home ground smarts fought back with majors to Ulahoopski and the perennially underrated grumbleguts giving them a narrow quarter time lead.

Q.2 saw some fine text book play by both outfits. The Royals began to edge ahead after a couple of snags from The Filth Wizard, another from Ulahoopski and one from PMBangers. The highlight of the quarter was however some magnificent Dragons' teamwork resulting in a classic Qooty goal to VandoHawk.

The third quarter commenced with the Royals enjoying a useful 15 point margin. The ageless The Filth Wizard soon snagged his 3rd and 4th and the Royals extended their margin despite a handy goal from Hatchy1992. Then followed a really tough period of uncompromising Qooty, broken finally by The Filth Wizard who booted his 3rd for the quarter. A late goal from the irrepressible Stoods cut the margin back to 18 at refreshments giving the Dragons a sniff.

Q.4 began with another clever goal from The Filth Wizard and a second from Krakouers and the Royals were on top. The Dragons however fought back with telling majors from DragoDelph and Hatchy1992 bringing the margin to a gettable 15 points. Both sides dug in (tho trenches are a little odd) and it was close until Cakeater snagged a classic.

With a comfortable margin the Royals relaxed and in a jiffy Hatchy1992 dobbed two and the impressive Braklet another. What was happening? A boilover? No, a narrow but fine win to the Royals and a harrowing loss to an unlucky and inaccurate Dragons.

GreyCrow was exceptional in the Ruck with 14 hitouts, 27 possessions and 5 tackles while CakeEater had a great game with 27 possessions and 6 jarring tackles while The Filth Wizard's 6 goals were also decisive for the winners. For the Dragons, DragoDelph was a menace all day with 26 possessions and 7 rib shattering tackles. They were well supported by Hatchy 1992 and Braklet up forward.

Goals:

Gold City Royals:
The Filth Wizard 6, Krakouers 2, Ulahoopski 2, CakeEater, Camros2, grumbleguts, Kapow ! ! !, nahnah, PMBangers

Another warm day greeted the Sin City Swamprats and the Coney Island Warriors. Both teams were hell bent on a win.

The first Quarter was nip and tuck ( a procedure Turbo might consider in the off season) with goal for goal in a very tight affair. The Warriors established a handy 9 point lead via fine finishing of upfield work by FootyGuy13, Piggy Smalls and a special goal from HoFamer pantskyle. The locals had plenty to cheer about with great goals from Gremio Power and Power Raid.

Q.2 commenced hard and tough with an exchange of points until the enigmatic sataris scored a classic opportunist goal. darthmann broke the deadlock with a nice goal putting the locals in front. ShaunDuggan and then sataris extended the Swamprats lead to 16 points.

The Premiership Quarter is a sore point for the Warriors and would it prove their undoing? Yessiree (Tonga) Bob! In an entertaining quarter the Swamprats built on their advantage opening a 23 point lead. so ataris had continued to provide a target for fine upfield work for the locals, while SBYM and Reginald Perrin capitalised on smart play from the visitors.

The last quarter commenced with both mobs locked and loaded. darthmann and then okeydoke 7 slammed through goals for the locals giving them a 33 point lead early in the last. This eventually ballooned to a 43 point win to the Swamprats.

For the winners Dominic03 had a day out with 33 possessions and 11 telling marks. Grav with 25 disposals and 12 crunching tackles was immense as were GotTheGoodes and BloodySwan who racked up the possessions. For the Warriors none were more stoic than Mofra with 23 disposals and 9 marks. Agent93 had a strong day with 24 possessions and a goal as did WaywardSon with 22 disposals and 10 marks.

Goals:

Sin City Swamprats: darthmann 3, okeydoke 7 3, sataris 3, Power Raid 2, Shaun Duggan 2, Ticky009 2, Gremio Power,

I've been watching the World Cup and have just caught up.

Firstly, I'll join the long list of people deservedly congratulating Hate. The easiest award of the year. All of the work behind the scenes would be enough without that masterpiece that was unveiled. Thank you hate, for everything, but especially that.

100% it's tackles. I've had 3-4 BOG's and not polled a single vote because I'm a pretty boy that refuses to tackle.
Combination of tackles and frees for (and rarely goals, but you would need upwards of 6 or 7 goals to get votes)

If you have 50 disposals and 20 marks but no tackles or goals then you're shit out of luck.
