Stevic - Seriously ?

Matt Stevic umpired really well last night. It was refreshing to see a balanced and non biased umpire. I hope the AFL reward Stevic by giving him the gig next week. It would be a big moment for Stevic, but he has proven that he is more than up to it.

Can the haters give three examples of this umpire making these upsetting decisions from last nights game so we can see if you have an actual case of evidence or just a losers perception.

Free kick to Hodge - shot on goal
reversal against Balla - goal
50 metre penalty when no one could find footage of a free kick -goal
Blatant throw by Brian Lake - missed shot on goal
Blatant drag down on Walters - missed shot on goal
Lake belting Balla 60 metres off the ball - missed shot on goal
Player asked to return to mark 3 times and slowly does it, then inexplicably runs at the man on the mark - 50 metre not paid
Player clearly cuts across the mark when the Freo player was about to kick and he has to pull his kick - 50m would have put him 20m out dead in front - missed shot on goal
Litany of other decisions (ranging from 50/50's to very very poor) in the middle of the ground almost all going Hawk's way including a 8 metre mark being paid that led to a goal when Mitchell would have otherwise been under immense pressure.

Even the random s**t like calling a play on advantage to the Hawk's and then retracting it. Waiting 4-5 seconds to blow a blatant throw only after Freo had actually got the ball and forcing them to bring it back, paying 3-7-10m kicks as marks.

Also calling Freo players for moving about 1mm off their line, when they clearly were trying to go back over the mark, but The goal at half time stood, and Freo was at least one time forced to go and kick over the mark when they had played on and got it out of defence.

You're simply not used to not getting an armchair ride at Subiaco. Had hale not marked the ball Cyril would have.

He might have but he is not allowed to back into a player and deliberately cut off his run at the ball to allow a 3rd man in. He did, so it is a clear free.

save your time mate, the lynch mob has spoken.

So he has to vacate the area the ball was going to drop does he?
No is the answer.
Cyril was allowed to be there as much as Dawson.

A couple more I noticed.

Start of the 3rd quarter there was a clear holding the ball as Mitchell was tackled in front of his own goals. Stevic was 5m away with a clear view and waved play on. Balla picked up the ball and scored.

Later in the 3rd quarter the ball clearly came off a Hawk's players boot and landed over the line. Stevic indicated a throw in until he was persuaded it was a Freo free kick by the boundary umpire.

Neither decision affected the score but they could have and were both very dubious.

good logic!!

Had Cyril not engaged a player 15 metres off the contest, that player would have been able to make the contest.

Had Hawthorn not kicked more points than Us- we would have won!

He is not allowed to back into him to hold him out of the play. How hard is that to understand?

The logic is that Cyril was positioning at the ball drop. Not difficult

Stevic didn't make the call, as it wasn't his to make. The first boundary umpire gave a shrug, "throw in?" which it would have been had no umpire sighted the free. As it was, the second boundary ump had a clear view and called it.

You are making stuff up.

There was one more I remember as well. A clear hold in the 3rd quarter where Griffin was being held 10 metres off the drop of the ball (basically 20m out directly in front). Sometimes those frees go against you, but it is inexcusable when you are paying the 3 frees that were paid to Hawthorn in the 1st quarter.

He wasn't holdi him out of the play. He's allowed to position at the ball drop. What's hard to understand about that??

HE'S NOT ALLOWED TO BACK INTO AN OPPOSITION PLAYER TO TAKE HIM OUT OF THE PLAY. If he ran straight at the ball he would have been fine but he didn't. As soon as he saw Hale coming in he stopped and took 2 steps back into the Freo player which is why the Freo player's attempt to get to the ball was completely *ed because he couldn't get a clean run at the ball. If you can't see / understand that, then I can't help you.

I rewatched it. I was wrong on that one. Your comments are correct.

Agree he's not allowed to block him. He is allowed to position at the drop of the ball to compete. That's what I think he was doing or at least given benefit of the doubt. You think it was a clear block. That's the difference of opinion and only Cyril knows.

1 the Hodge free soft but unnecessary contact high on back by Mzungu. Not sure if called high or in the back - point
2 Ballantyne blindsides a Suckling 30m from the play - What more can you say
3 the 50m we have no vision so can't comment. Its possible it was the greatest king hit of all time or the most frivolous contact. We dont know.
4 drag down of Walters free missed . The drag down of Rioli free missed 27min 3rd quarter Griffin goals
5 Throw by Lake ??? When so we can check
6 Lake belting Ballantyne ??? When so we can check
7 Player player player. These mean nothing. Its just as easy to list a series of events where Hawthorn weren't paid frees. Watch any game and you'll find 20 of these a side.
8 8m mark. Did you measure it?
Free to Roughead and Schu picks up the ball, ump calls advantage and schu stops and raises his hand. Its the players call. Correct decision by the ump.
All up your case is weak. Try again

Yes it was dropping the ball. Tacked by number 20? as he kicks and misses the ball. It bounces straight to Ballantyne. Any umpire intervention would have been to Fremantle's disadvantage. He scored a goal. Surely you can get a better example then this.
